I happen to have had a great in depth conversation with black bear performance that in short went like this," yes, Mike, it absolutely matters that you have an intake and exhaust on your truck because those free up airflow and power and we tune accordingly. We will have your custom tune sent to you in a few business days." And interestingly enough, my truck is easily making an extra 20 ponies. Probably more but I'm being conservative. Oh and was anyone aware that GM offers a factory intake complete with an increase in hp??? Hmmm...

You can dyno all day long they all have a margin of error, its pretty easy to do 100 runs and say hey look at this one I made where the margains are at their greatest apart.

 

 

Thanks for confirming to the class that you have no idea what that chart means. You don't understand what MAP stands for or that dynos don't measure it. That's OK, I would be happy to explain it to you and you might actually learn something. Would you like me to do that or are you still convinced you know everything?

Do you really think GM or any manufacturer spends millions on research and just haphazardly decides 'well shit you know what lets leave 10-20 HP on the table and design a shit intake because what the hell right'.

for every day driving a cai has no benefit over the stock intake, unless you have your foot on the floor all the time. the throttle plate controls how much air gets into the engine, so the majority of the time you drive the throttle isnt even open 50 percent in which case the stock intake can supply more than enough air

Yes GM, Audi, and most other manufacturers leave power left on the table to keep cars in different segments and within various environmental limits.

 

There are several examples of manufacturers that have the same motor that makes various outputs. The Audi 3.0tfsi is in the a6 (300hp) s4 (330hp) sq5 (354hp). Subaru ej205 makes 300 hp on pre '08 models and 265 on the wrx.

As for the CAI, the conversation ended with the gains and losses are both found on the dyno powerband. That's has been the consistent answer for 20 years concerning these intakes.
