Scratched rim from dealer tire roatation

Shrug it off, sockets will do that.

 

If you're worried about any rust or corrosion, take some clear nail polish from your wife and touch it up.

 

Next time you go to the dealership, bring your own socket and put a layer or two of electrical tape around it. That will prevent it from happening again.

I just got a kick out of it because the service manager goes "huh that's usually the easy on to get off" referring to the wheel lock lug.

 

I work in high end homes (electrician) and I make sure not to scratch floors, counter tops, or anything for that matter when I'm doing my thing. I use drop cloths and other protection as necessary. Just kind of frustrating.

Yup, I understand completely. I like to be clean and respectful of people's property as well.

 

The lug holes are eventually gonna get beat up, not matter what you do.

I think what you do is a little different than rotating tires. If you're worried then use touch up paint or as suggested some kind of clear polish. If you're that worried you can also rotate them yourself. I can understand if they scratched it on the outside, but being that it's in the lug hole it's going to happen.

I hear you, that's why I try to do as much myself as I can.

It seems as though when it comes back from the dealership there is always a new scratch or scuff or something loose or rattling that wasn't there when I took it in......My brother just got his Acadia back and they scuffed the 2 front mud flaps ( where the GMC writing is)from where the arms go in and out on the lift....

I know most people don't care, but I work in the service industry too, and if i screw up to many people's properties, i'd lose my job.

They just replaced all 4 of my rims under warranty for the same thing - (kidding)

 

They actually did replace all 4 of my rims under warranty since I had under 36000 miles, but it was because the little scrapes after a year or so turned into noticeable corrosion like flaws.

 

Keep an eye on it and if it grows enough, they'll replace it for free before warranty is up.

I don't see the scratch? The stud holes aren't fully painted to begin with on 95% of the GM wheels I've seen.

You don't see the humongous gouging at 4 o'clock on the inside rim? Untouched, it might even rust through in about 200 years.....my mistake they're likely alloy, make that 1000 years!

 

Actually, it appears that the scrapes weren't caused by the lug nut socket, but by the oversized lock key, or whatever method if the key wasn't provided to the mechanic.....and that doesn't look like the nicely machined head of the GM OEM accessory (McGard) lock nut whose key provides plenty of clearance for removal without gouging, rather some cheapo knockoff. My locks have passed down through 3 trucks and never scarred any rims.

 

Service manager likely only shrugged to be polite.

This is normal wear on a vehicle. Any wheel that has been moved due to rotation, flat repair or new tire will show signs of handling. Your vehicle is no longer brand new and these initial "marks" are most disconcerting. Once you get your first scratch or ding on the body, you will forget about the socket marks on your rims!

Take off your wheel lock before you take it to the shop.
