My turn...

Great day turned terrible! Woman slams on her brakes in middle of 40 mph road for whatever reason. The girl in front of me slams on her brakes. I slam on my brakes and rear end the girl in front of me. The car behind me barely missed rear ending me. This truly sucks, as I've never hit anyone, let alone been in an accident. Luckily the cop did not issue me a citation... silver lining right there. Going through insurance to see what options there are.

Glad everyone is ok! That's the main thing. I'd be a bit pissed if this happened to me as well.

First winter blizzard coming this weekend, I best stay off the road because of all the people won't remember how to drive in snow.

Is there no dent in the Chrysler 200 bumper/trunk? I know they are heavy cars for the size, but that makes me think they might be made of steel.

Same here, I'll let the idiots have their snow driving learning curve too. Especially the 4x4s and AWD types that forget they can't stop any faster with the 4wd.

I'd get a repair estimate before turning in an insurance claim. Might just need a bumper and some misc. plastic so might not be worth the claim history and future rate hike.

i am very upset about this... it should be the other way around. Me personally i wouldn't bother insurance and id use this as an excuse to get a steel bumper.

Nah, it is totalled. I would use this as an excuse to get a new truck.

Metal bumper is pretty thin but held the dent. Looks loke plastic bumper just popped back in place. Wow. Looks very minor.

If you take that plastic bumper cover off of the Chrysler, I bet the bumper bar and energy absorber are smashed.

I see that a lot as a body tech. Someone brings in a car just wanting some scratches or slight denting in a plastic bumper cover, and when we take it off, everything behind it is completely ****ed.

But as for your truck, looks like it just needs a new bumper, and maybe a few little plastic pieces.

I haven't replaced a bumper on a 14+ yet, but I've done dozens of the 99-13 GM trucks, and those ones are easy peasy.

Sorry this happened. I agree with the suggestions to try and avoid an insurance claim on your truck. I personally would use the opportunity to buy a custom bumper If you choose to keep it stock, shop around. I've had similar damage to a previous truck and was shocked at the range in replacement costs from shop to shop. Non OEM replica parts are also a cost effective option.

The bumper on the Chrysler was plastic on the outside. It looks fine except for a few dents. I'm sure there's damage underneath though.

Unfortunately if I were to not make an insurance claim, I'd have to pay to fix their vehicle out of pocket, on top of fixing my own... Going through insurance will fix her car no problem.

Insurance ended up giving me two options. The first one included paying the deductible and they'll have it repaired. The second option was for them to write me a check so that I could fix the truck.

I requested a damage assessment to see how much it would cost to get it fixed vs. how much they could offer me to fix it myself. Hoping to go the cheapest route with stock parts, they'll be calling me by tomorrow afternoon.
