Exhaust flapper squeak warranty question... Replacement with GM Borla

My truck developed the exhaust flapper valve squeak a few months ago, I could ignore it first but recently it has gotten downright obnoxious. My understanding is that GM's solution is to warranty out the exhaust and replace it. If that is correct Here is my question, I have been looking at getting the GM Borla exhaust for a while and wanted to know the best way to approach my dealer about it to see if when they warranty out the old exhaust they are willing to put what they would get paid by GM for a new OEM exhaust towards the Borla system with me paying the difference.

Edit to make sure everyone understands I am talking about getting a GM Borla system P/N 19303336 not a system straight from Borla, so the money would go through gm regardless.

Paying the difference thing might be worth a shot as they could try and get GM to foot the price of the factory exhaust system, and you foot the rest.

Ya I don't think a dealer would do that since I'm sure GM would make them replace it with a factory part. It's worth a shot so it doesn't hurt to ask, but don't get your hopes up. I would just replace it with what you want. I know some body shops (including the one I use) would install aftermarket stuff instead of factory if that's what you want and most of the time it's no price difference unless you're talking expensive stuff.

It never hurts to ask, but I doubt that your dealer would go along with that. That's basically fraud back to GM.

I doubt they will do it, depends on who produced the factory exhaust but either way that Borla will cost GM way more than a stock replacement.

FWIW dont even bother with the new stock exhaust, I had mine replaced at 4K miles for the chirp/squeak on this '16 and it is back at 9K miles. I ended up spending 165.00 for a Range device to shut off the V4 so I dont hear it anymore. Plus the bonus of the trans and engine feeling much better now that it doesnt go into V4 anymore.

I tried doing this on my 2012 GMC Sierra when i got rear ended and they needed to replace my exhaust. My dealer told me that unfortunately it didn't work like that. That was my personal experience from an accident, not warranty.. but I would assume you will get a similar answer.

Doesn't hurt to try and ask though! :fingersx:

I can tell you this though, the GM/Borla dual exhaust is very nice, and worth the cost!

That is BS, that is just a lazy dealer. Nothing says that insurance demands you have to replace the part with the factory part. The insurance is only required to pay for a factory replacement part, if the owner wants to go with another brand they can.

My experience on the OP question is this. It depends on the dealer. When I had my GTO and my G8 GXP both had known suspension issues with the strut tower bushings collapsing due to the cars being strapped down for 6 weeks on the boat ride over to the USA. The OEM replacement would fix the issue for about an year, but then would collapse as well. I got GM and the dealer to agree to allow me to use the Pedder's replacement bushings and springs. I was only responsible for any overage if there was any.

Agreed.. BUT because it was considered a "performance cat-back" it was not deemed an equal replacement because they would not pay for a "performance" part. I tried that argument :(

It may have been the insurance company and not the dealer, I am not really completely sure.

If you have a creative dealer that wants to help you out it could be done. Here's how it would have to work; they would have to submit a warranty claim with the oem part number being replaced. Then they could just do a counter ticket refunding you the oem part and billing you for the GM borla part.

That all being said unless you know someone working in the service department I doubt you'll get it done. GM corporate would view it as warranty fraud. Good luck though.

So I am wondering what you all are useing to stop this valve from squeeking, short of smashing the hell out of it with a hammer? hahah

Is there some king of high temp lubicant that can be used on it?
