I might be an idiot but......Every time I start my truck and roll the HVAC button to the right to turn On it immediately turns the AC on? Even if you push it in to start the HAVAC the AC turns on? Truck has dual climate zones etc. I am hopping it's something I am doing and do not have to take to dealer!!! Thanks people I appreciate the help!

No it just how they are. I use to wonder same thing,I guess its normal. I leave mine set on auto at 73 and my A/C button is always on. I use to turn it off, now I just leave it. Seems to be fine.

Also, just because it's on doesn't mean the compressor is running. It just means that it is powered, so it could turn on if conditions (air temp, humidity, etc) warrant it.

There is nothing wrong with your truck.

If you hit the Recirculation air button "HVAC" or the "auto" button the AC turns on automatically. You can get more details on pages 8-5 to 8-7 of your owners manual.

@ "(Recirculation/HVAC): Press to turn on recirculation. An indicator light comes on. Air is recirculated to quickly cool the inside of the vehicle. It can also be used to help reduce outside air and odors that enter the vehicle. The air conditioning compressor also comes on when this mode is activated"

@ "(AUTO) Automatic Operation The system automatically controls the fan speed, air delivery, air conditioning, and recirculation in order to heat or cool the vehicle to the desired temperature. When the indicator light is on, the system is in full automatic operation. If the air delivery mode or fan setting is manually adjusted, the auto indicator turns off and displays will show the selected settings. To place the system in automatic mode: 1. Press AUTO. 2. Set the driver and passenger temperature. To find your comfort setting, start with 22°C (72°F) and allow the system time to stabilize. Then adjust the temperature as needed for best comfort. To improve fuel efficiency and to cool the vehicle faster, recirculation may be automatically selected in warm weather. The recirculation light will not come on when automatically controlled. Press @ to manually select recirculation; press it again to select outside air. Do not cover the solar sensor on the top of the instrument panel near the windshield. This sensor regulates air temperature based on sun load. See “Sensors” later in this section."

Hope that helps.

Great Thanks people! I thought I would ask here because the Dealer probably would not know anyway! LOL

I don't know every time it engages the and the light comes on I can feel the Electrical "Draw" telling me the compressor is running again!

Using the Auto setting is the best way of keeping the windows from fogging up.

It is not hurting anything if it was running the AC it would freeze up in the winter and that never happens.

Agreed. I have to shut mine off every time. I find it really annoying. I also find with these particular trucks (2014-2019) its a real struggle to keep the windows from fogging when its cold. The defroster always has to be on... Never had to on my older trucks. Also.... Sometimes I will get the smell of dampness when I get into the truck after I auto start it. I changed the cabin filter too and still a hint of it sometimes.

I have the opposite experience to you.  In the winter time I generally leave the fan on with AC button turned off with the split vent on (face, floor).  I always leave the fan speed on at least the lowest speed so that way I don't ever have to turn the system back on and have to turn off the AC.  I don;t have any fogging issues unless its raining, even then, I don't always fog.  Like today was about 40F and rainy on my way home from work, no fogging.  I keep the temp at approx 71.

I find when I run the defroster (AC is on) I have to bump the temp up to 74/75 to feel the same comfort level as having the AC off at 71.

The floor/windshield is one of the settings where the AC pump/condenser does run, the AC light just does not come on.

Correct.  I dont use that setting unless I'm fogging up or its snowing.

I think if you do just floor,  the AC still turns on.  Can anyone confirm?

    • Thanks, all. It sounds like keeping the software "as is" is the best course of action.
    • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overengineering   Excerpt from the above link: (BTW the above is a 90 second read)   [Quote]   A story about very precise engineering is given in the 1858 story The Deacon's Masterpiece or, the Wonderful "One-hoss Shay": A Logical Story by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., which tells of a carriage (one-horse shay) Because it had been engineered so that no single piece failed first – no piece was over-engineered relative to the others, and they thus all collapsed at the same time. A similar quote by Ferdinand Porsche claimed "the perfect race car crosses the finish line in first place and immediately falls into pieces."[5]   [End Quote}   By Engineering's  own definition then; the AFM and Torque Converters, 4-5-6 clutch assembly of the 6L80E, and a dozen other common chronic parts and systems failures are "UNDER ENGINEERED". And by their own definition done so with INTENT. Ya can't have it both ways OEM's.

    • I was in Utah this week attempting a bow hunt in the Wasatch mountains with friends.  On the evening of the first hunt, making my way across a ridge to a friends camp, the upper control arm on the driver's side separated, the CV axle got trashed, and the wheel was dang near at a 45 degree angle to the ground.  I was able to get it towed off the mountain and into town about 3:00 am, and spent the remainder of the night in an O'Reilly's parking lot.  Luckily, there was a Chevrolet dealership not to far away so I was able to get to the dealership and pick up a new CV and UCA.  It would have been a few days before they could have gotten to the truck and I brought tools with me on hunt since it was a two day drive to get there, so I did the repairs myself in the O'Reilly's parking lot.      What's interesting is that the UCA ball joint didn't break, it just popped out of the bottom of the UCA.  There was VERY LITTLE evidence of grease on the ball joint or in the socket, and you could see where the ball joint had warbled out part of the socket over time.  I guess that's what happens over 186K miles of use :)   Big Kudos to O'Reilly's for letting me work on the truck in their parking lot.  However, they made a $150+ off of me from the purchase of various tools, so I guess it was in their best interest anyways :)   Getting towed off the mountain.   UCA Ball Joint Socket   Trashed CV   Suspension disconnected and UCA and CV Removed   New UCA and CV installed with the suspension buttoned up.
    • My family still laughs at me when they see me drive up in the minivan. Same with less than a V-8 truck. It helps that I have choices. I don’t think I could only have a minivan as the one and only vehicle as much as I like it. And I wouldn’t pass up a good buy on an older V-8 reg cab GM truck. Could you live Raven as the only ride?
