2017 Dodge Ram ?

I've driven GM all my life, bought a new one every year from 2008 till 2015, but I finally got fed up with the shifting issues, I hate the way GM's AFM interacts, and the uncomfortable seats. I was one of those suckers that bought a new 2016 F150 Lariat and the unfixable wind noises, rattling doors and general piss poor quality and workmanship drove me away in 6 months. Although I had not had a Dodge product sense the 80's, there was no way in hell I was ever going to own another Ford again, so I decided to try a Ram. They are not the Rams you remember. Mine is a complete joy to drive and I have had zero issues anywhere. I will always consider a Sierra or a Silverado for my next Truck because I have always loved them but I will wait till the interior seat comfort is changed and till the shifting issues are straightened out and no-one is having vibration issues anymore. Till that day I will drive nothing but a Ram. The ball is in GM's court now, we'll see what they do with it.

Half of you sound as if you have stolkhome syndrome. Or afraid to try something new. I have had 3 GM's now and after this 900 series I have now goes away it will either be a Ford or dodge for me. GM has there head so buried in the sand it isn't even funny. Clunky transmissions, terrible throttle response, and a total lack of not just giving a crap.

my buddy drives a ram... nothing but issues.. the biggest is that at highway speeds the back gets jumpy... he's had everything replaced, even took rims off another new ram, and swapped them out... force balance... still has the issue.. ... what i dont like about the new ones... the slap that big ass RAM across the tailgate... i mean.. i know its a dodge, but do you need it that big??.... i wouldn't trade my GM for it.. no sir

Funny, people say the same things on Ford and RAM forums. Grass isnt always greener on the other side.

That is one thing I've noticed too. The seats in the RAM truck are much more comfortable than the GM.

Frankly, my seats in my Hellcat are super comfy and supportive too.

And I've rented several Chrysler Town and Country minivans and those seats are super comfy as well, more so than my Honda's as well.

I think Dodge has the market on seat comfort, whomever they use, they get an A+

RAMs are so comfortable and way more technologically advanced than GM trucks! This is why we read about them on a GM truck forum. Those push button starts are a marvel! Last time I didn't use the key to start my car was my '56 Austin A55 that I owned when I was in grade 11. ('61 Chev didn't require a key either) The throttle response on the RAM is as sharp as my wife's Yaris! A slight touch of the gas and you shoot off like a rocket! All joking aside, all car companies are aware of what their competition is offering. They aim to attract the largest number of buyers. GM trucks appeal to me but I appreciate the appeal of the other brands. Saying one product is more comfortable or better driving are opinions. (in my opinion!)

It is of my opinion that GM gives it's trucks the best all around performance for 100,000-200,000 mile etc. Yes, the throttle response, shifting etc. do suck and are purposefully done I believe. I have a truck I plug a phone into and talk to the computer text and phone. Dodge and FERD have systems too neither are as easy and useful....Yet, GM gets no respect! They were spot on to offer NO TURBO'S and NO Aluminum and were criticized once again for being dumb, lazy, slow etc. Yet, here I have a truck 5.3 and two coworkers have a 2016 FERD and RAM. The Ram guy laughs at fuel economy saying it's awful worse than my 2003 Chevy? Also, the F'N shift knob is going to make me kill somebody? The FERD Guy, well gets maybe 17 mpg's on HWY and combined 15 something? Their next series should be undeniably better.......

All trucks have issues, regardless of manufacture. Now that we got the unicorn search disclosure out there, Here is my quick take.

I was on the market in August of 2014 for a crew cab, SB, 4wd, V8 truck. I tested drove the RAM trim that was comparable to the LT. Buckets, cloth etc. Very nice interior, sharp truck. Reasons I went with my GM over the RAM, which was my 2nd choice, in no particular order.

1- I got the GM family discount on my truck. Married into a GM family. Got a really nice discount on my truck along with the factory cash they had in Aug of '14.

2- Warranty on the GM was best in class IIRC. I drive a lot for work/commuting so having the longest warranty was a plus. Ford and Toyotas was 5yr/60k.... that's like 2yrs in my world.

3- I worked with a guy who had two RAM's. His '12 was a fully loaded truck. One of the headlights never worked. Was a complete battle with the dealer. Had something to do with the power module that controls everything. Dealer kept throwing bulbs at it. They supposedly flew in an expert to fix it.... not sure if it was ever fixed or not.

4- The same guy above, in his earlier RAM had a RF bearing go out at 90k.

5- IIRC, IIHS had the '14 GM trucks rated the safest in class. I believe the new Ford has now since taken that title. So for me the GM was the safest truck I could buy at that time.

6- Ford had no factory cash and was not willing to deal on their old trucks and their aluminum trucks were not out yet. Was only looking at the 5.0 V8 FX4.

7- I plan to keep the truck for high mileage, I drive about 25-30k/yr. 10yrs is 250-300k. I've owned and built a lot of turbo cars (Hence FL335i) and the thought of turbos and all that jazz just turned me off from a lot of the fords on the lots. And I was not paying top dollar for an old truck. Looking back, i was right.... I would of lost my shirt on the Fords.

I now have 60k on my truck. Looking back only the Toyota might have yielded a better depreciation value. So from a business stand point, my choice has proven pretty good in that sense. I've had a few little things with my truck but nothing that keeps me up at night. I got 53k out of the factory SRA's and they still had about 5/32" but they were scary in the wet. The only issue I currently have is the passenger bucket seat has a noise on rough roads when nobody is sitting in it. My truck does not vibrate and I love the simplicity of the NA V8.

That's just it the simplicity of NA V8 with CIB =quiet, smaller easier to add AFM,VVT Just makes one wonder how much headroom is left and if GM has trick up their sleeve or DOHC here we come?

In a weak moment, I changed my mind and bought a new Sierra. All it took was a test drive and I was hooked. Sorry Ram, I'm back in a GMC.

I love the internet sometimes. You just made my day. I understand what you mean though, I almost fell for a tricoat Denali myself. :driving:

Good decision in my opinion, and I wouldn't call it weak!
