Windshield wipers

I have the original windshield wipers on my 09.

They make a little noise rubbing the windshield because they have become curved over the years, but they still do a good job and don't smear or have an gaps where they don't wipe the windshield. If they didn't make any noise because of the curved blade, I wouldn't replace them, they are still doing their job.

I am thinking of replacing them, but what my concern is, is that aftermarket wiper blades only seem to last a couple of years.

My wife's car, would need wiper blades every 2 - 3 years and so I am thinking of ordering wiper blades from the dealer.

I know they would be more expensive, but do you think I would get factory blades?

Do you think any specific brand is better than another?

What is your opinion on this?

original wipers for 8 years???? don't the wiper manufacturers tell you to replace them every 6 months? (not that I do- i usually get 1-2 years out of them since i park in a garage.)

I've always bought replacements from my local Fleet Farm- they sell ANCO brand. seems to work just fine. Rain-X sells some for a little more money.

I'm following to see if there is a consensus on a better product as well.

Well I will bet a $100.00 that the OP don't live in Florida and park outside.

Down here it doesn't matter if you buy the cheap refills (if you can still find them) or the $25 each complete blades. After about 2 years they are shot from the sun. By the third year they are literally disintegrating and you have the rubber coming loose and dragging metal on your glass.

I have learned to buy the cheapest of the mid price blades or refills. They last for about 18 months and after that its borrowed time.

If you've had the original wipers for 8 years how is it even a question on which ones to buy next? I can't seem to get over a year out of them

I am on my 4th set of blades on my '09--my truck sits outside 24/7, and I replace the blades as soon as they start streaking or tearing. The 2nd set was Bosch (Icons, I think) and they wiped ok, but I didn't like the big plastic hump on the connector that sticks up so high compared to the factory ones. The 3rd set I went back to the OEM ones bought from the Chevy dealer. They were like $24 each, and the parts guy was like, lemme get this straight, you wanna buy wiper blades here?? I think they had been on their back shelf since '07, because the rubber seemed a little brittle, and they never wiped quite as good as the factory ones. The set I'm running now is Michelin hybrid blades from WalMart. They cost about 1/2 as much as the GM ones, and were actually a little better in the limited snow/ice we had this winter. But the Michelins were a PITA to install, and I broke a little plastic connector and had to go buy a whole new blade just to get the 10 cent plastic connector part. Next time I will probably just order the GM ones from rockauto.com online.

Trico high performance wiper. Got them on Amazon for $17 for one. First set lasted a year and then 2nd set lasted 5 years.

I've always gotten OEM ones from amazon. They just work so well. However, this past time around I have put on the best high-end Bosch Icons. They work great. I did wipe them down thoroughly with windshield wiper fluid before installation and got a bunch of trash off them. I always get a bunch of goo off of new wiper blades. Anyway, they work great.

I live in So Calif. and the truck is parked outside all the time.

I thought they would be replaced long before now, but they are not torn or damaged other than them being curved and they make noise when heading up the windshield.....and they don't skip any spots, that is why I would like to get the same ones. I am sure I could get another year or two out of them as long as they don't tear or start skipping.

It could be that maybe I will get some old ones from GM that won't last you never know.

With so many options it gets to be a crap shoot. If one set doesn't last, try another!

I've not had good luck with the Goodyears from Costco. They don't last long and they don't flex well enough to cover the windshield. And the clamps/brackets on them break too easily. In fact both of mine blew off while in the carwash last week. I am trying the Rain-X lattitudes now. They certainly won't break off.
