OnStar unlimited data $20

Tempted to do this, but definitely do not need the data. Having Pandora on MyLink directly is about the only reason I would do this... but with 20G of data on my phone (pretty much to myself) the practical side of me is saying pass...

Just wondering , has any AT&T employee got them to give us our cell phone discount on the truck account as well? If its linked to your regular mobile plan it should qualify, but the stores cant give me a straight answer...

Is 20/unlimited a new plan or a promo? Really tempting........

call or email the e.m.o people and check with them, not sure if we can get it due to onstar offering/selling. but if we can, 10 dollars would be better than 20! lol

I signed up the day before yesterday. It was simple, I did it through my On Star button. It is indeed $20 a month for unlimited usage with no contract obligation beyond 30 days at a time. They will throttle you down after 22 gigs of data have been used during each thirty day cycle.

The rub for me is the connection speed. I am in Southern Colorado. My truck hooked up at .36 MBPS (decimal point is correct at point 36). I checked my speed on my cell phone at the same time. The phone hooked at 28 MBPS. On Star said I could expect speeds between 25-30 or even better in some 4GLTE areas, but I am barely able to achieve one tenth of that.

I was really excited, I live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. My cell service is spotty at times when I am in the country. I thought the OnStar would be strong enough to overcome the poor signal (remember the ancient 3 watt bag phones? They would get signal at the bottom of a lake.) The terrible speeds while in the center of a city are going to make it an unwise investment for me.

What kind of download speeds are you achieving with your new $20 service?

I am getting 4 megabits per second download and .5 megabit uploads in northwest Chicago suburbs

I have unlimited data on my iPhone but still tempted to get this but doesn't seem like a point. We have Pandora on the phones. Any other good reasons to do this?

For me it is worth it. I have unlimited on my phone but the truck get 5x better reception than any phone. My speeds on the truck are running about 8mbps up and down... killer deal IMO and it will end

Picking up my new 2017 Siverado tomorrow. Being new to this on board WIFI in my vehicle my question is what can I do with it that I can't do on my iphone? What advantages are there in having this WIFI feature in my truck?

I signed up because I was paying the old $15 a month for 1 gig. So I did it so that when the kids are in car, they can surf and not go through the limited family plan. I was disappointed to learn that the Pandora app on My Link doesn't directly link to the internet. It still needs you to have a smart phone or tablet for it to work - and it does work well after that. So I got a Apple Touch permanently in the car to play pandora - which is cool. I do wish mylink had apps that streamed directly from the internet.

The only real advantage is that The truck will pick up better reception than a phone. So boondocking it could prove handy. Also you can let up to 7 devices connect. I work from my truck so I have various gadgets that require net connection. Everything from laptop to dashcam uses my Wi-Fi and of course my kids tablet on the road... other than that... probably not much
