Air filter

I'm not happy with the performance of my 2015 Silverado 5.3 V8 when I'm not pulling my pull behind trailer. I knew it could do better than it does now. I replaced the OEM filter with the open air, AFE dry filter and what a huge difference it makes. It sounds great and makes a big difference in torque. When I need to get on it the pickup was just not their and I knew it could be better. I also put on a dual exhaust and now it sounds like what an AMERICAN V8 should sound like!

I hope the moderators keep this somewhere we can find it and I'd like to see an informed discussion. Sound? Yes. Noticeable throttle response change? Skeptical.

How about MPG?

An air filter gives a fraction of a percent of hp/torque increase by itself on an otherwise stock setup. Most likely any difference felt is placebo. It does make a cool noise though.

My thought is you are moving twice as much air through the intake at 4,000 rpm so as 2,000 rpms. Therefore the filter isn't very restrictive at cruising speed, so it's a waste in my opinion. Gearing is what I'm guessing makes a difference. A lower gear puts the rpms higher, torque is increased in higher rpms. Once rolling down the road my truck is constantly trying to reduce rpms, at 45 mph it's trying to shift into 6th gear, I think that's ridiculous. I haven't pulled a load yet with my truck, so I can't say what Tow/haul will do, but I believe gearing makes the difference.

I'm very interested to see how this thread goes.

I read some very good advice from this website . When I made a comment about my air filter and the better performer that I got, I never claimed to be an engineer or a transmission expert! I was just trying to give some friendly advice. I feel like I'm on Facebook. Sorry if I offended you their will be no more comments so I can't be wrong anymore.

Did you get the complete system with new intake tube and air box, or did you just do the drop in filter? The aFe intake is considered to be the best and has proven itself in the real world and on the dyno!

High-flow filters and intake systems typically muffle induction sounds less than conventional paper filters do, which can give the impression of better performance — or simply a desired sound — that's worth the price of admission for some drivers.

I did put in a complete system, I noticed a difference after that. Now l put a dual exhaust on it. It's a dual exhaust after the catalytic converter, That gives me the good sound that I wanted.

did you have it on a dyno? Any improvement?

Almost 300 hp at the wheels, but that's after reprogramming the computer. The Dyno said 155 mph, but of course the Dyno is a lot higher than what I will get. After I drove on the highway I went 110 mph and I slowed down because of traffic. Before I could only go 99 mph. I was told it will go 130 mph, Will find out soon! The engine performs so much smoother. Before I did all of this The response was so much slower.

Google driveshaft failure. Happens at around 115mph give or take. Don't try the 130mph.
