22" rim Center cap Removal

Does anyone know if you can remove the center cap from gm factory 22s without taking the wheel off?

They pop out towards the front, but you might damage the rim or the cap by prying it. Easiest way is to remove the wheel and push it from the inside.

You could try a suction cup or tape? Prolly won't work but worth a shot.

They are intentionally designed to be removed by taking the wheel off for the purpose of anti-theft. They're kinda pricey so they made them accessible from the rear only.

If you don't care about destroying the cap itself you might be able to drill a hole in it big enough let you pop it off. There tabs on the inside and a metal ring so you need to push the tabs in to pop it out. Next time you have your wheels rotated have them pop them out and replace with the ones you want .

I removed the center caps from the Tahoe by taking a 20 oz pop bottle and putting strips of 3M double sided molding tape on the bottom to match the ridges there. Press it on real good, remove the remaining red protective covering, and press the bottle FIRMLY against the center cap. Give it a good yank straight out and the cap should pop right out. Works best on a relatively smooth cap like a Chevy. You might need to be a bit more creative with tape placement, but it worked for me.

The bottle's still stuck up on the wall as a reminder of creative problem-solving.

Or you could just pull all four wheels.

Cool idea. What did you replace the center caps with? And were you able to put the new center caps back in with the wheels on?

I hate to be that guy... but it's only 6 lug nuts to remove a rim off a truck. Not worth damaging a cap or rim... do it the rite way.

Make sure your new center caps are the correct size. I tried the caps from my 22s on my 17s and they weren't quite a perfect fit. So I don't think all center caps are the same. The 22s have a metal ring where the 17s caps were just plastic

Another set of modified center caps. They easily snapped back in.

Like Shamrock says, make sure the new ones are the right size; there are subtle variances.

And that's 24 lugs off and back on, plus the jack on and jack off.

I'm tired just thinking about it.

while we're on the subject... i just bought a set of the polished 20" Sierra/Yukon SLT mesh wheels. Are all of the 20"+ GM centercaps interchangable? I need to order chevy centercaps for them that match the factory polished finish

I hate it when that happens.

yea, it can get kind of messy, usually best to keep the garage door closed too.
