2017 BLACK ALL TERRAIN. SOFT PAINT !!!

OK. So im not alone with soft paint on theses new trucks , bummer

 

Yes for sure get a PPF on the front end of truck I have XPel. No chips on front had it on my 2010. Well worth it

Wow I've said the same thing! It's like the paint they are using on the new trucks are soft is the best way I can explain it. I have a black truck and it does scratches easily vs my 2012 Tacoma with a hard ass paint for example.

The bumper is a bummer. I luckily had a good dealership that was willing to repaint, a few months after I bought it. I covered it with suntek clear film after the repaint and it has stopped the chipping almost completely. If you do get it repainted, look into clear wraps before you take it on the road. Makes a world of difference.

It's definitely a good idea, and will probably look into that if I get the bumper repainted. I actually thought about doing it when I bought the truck, but never pulled the trigger. There is so much sand and debris on the roads around my area though it may be a losing battle, I'm noticing a couple chips on the pillar that runs from the hood to the roof on the driver side also.

And I'm on the interstate on a daily basis and there are a Ton of tractor trailers and dump trucks around here that just seem to sandblast the hell out of it. Very aggressive drivers here, Everybody drives 100 miles an hour, and if you not, your getting passed and cut off. Lol. Would probably need to wrap the whole front clip.

same thing w/ my black '14 All terrain - I had a pic of the front end of my G8 GT I traded in for the truck, the G8 had 135k on it was black & obviously much lower to the ground & the front bumper had fewer chips than my '14 had after only 1 winter!!!!! Dealer had it resprayed on their dime & then I had them put a clear bra after it was finished @ their cost.

 

That truck ended up getting totaled & the black 2015 AT I replaced it w/ (nearly identical except 6.2 w/ 8 speed & short bed) I wouldn't take delivery on until a clear bra was installed. These painted bumper will chip if you look at 'em funny lol!

I carry a small bottle of touch up paint I bought from the dealer.

 

The all-terrains have painted metal front bumpers, and it's a known issue that they chip way to easily.

You can blame the epa for making paint the way it is. I have a toyota camry also and the paint on it is even worse. I gave up filling chips on the plastic bumper cover and only cover the ones on the hood.I mainly do it to keep the metal from rusting.

My truck has a door scratch and from what i am seeing the dealership attempted a repair. They covered it with a heavy coat of wax and it was not noticeable until I washed it a few times and got some of the wax off, it is now like a big sore thumb in the sunlight. Not sure it is a paint problem I think it is more of a idiot cleanup guy at the dealesrship trying to hide a scratch. Or maybe an idiot too trusting buyer that did not do a thorough inspection like the should have out in the sunshine where the flaw could have been caught before driving off.

That looks like it could be polished/buffed. A skilled detailer should be able to make that look perfect, even in the sun.
