What is going on with my truck????????

Hi Guys,

I really need some input to see if anyone has had a similar problem. I purchased my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 earlier this year and began having problems two months in. First my problem was I would get into my truck and put the key into the ignition when I would turn the key the truck would not start. I would wait for a little while and turn it again and it would start. Sometimes my alarm system would go off in which I would just hit the unlock button and know the car was back to normal. Then one day when I was driving home I made a left turn and my truck completely shut off. It was then that I decided to take it to the dealership for a full diagnostic. The dealership came back and said nothing has registered faulty. My battery was good as well as my alternator. Well a couple months passed by some days/weeks no issue starting up my truck other days there was. Mostly the messages I would get would be "Stabilitrak" or "Battery Low Start Vehicle". Well just today when I was backing up my truck the steering wheel did not want to turn it would jerk back then the Stabilitrak message would be popping up along with the "parking assist off" message. I then decided record on my phone the incident at hand along with turning off the car and restarting it. Well once I turned off the truck it would not start up until 5 minutes later when the alarm went off. I then turned on the truck when the message of Battery Low Start Vehicle and Stabilitrak Service appeared again. I then took it to the dealership given the codes would probably be fresh in the system. When the ran the diagnostic it came back with nothing. Any ideas? Has anyone come across this? Could it be the alarm system that is causing this issue?

Sounds like you bought my old truck. Dealer could never figure it out on mine, eventually I just traded it in. I'm surprised no one has died due to this widespread problem. GM is a bunch of assholes for not doing a recall on this.

I was doing 55+ mph when my truck went bonkers. Scared the hell out of me. It was insane peer steering and all that shut down during a fast lane change.

Drove it right to the dealership and they couldn't find anything. Going to take a look at that document above and see if any of those fix the issue.

Thanks for the document. I had my radio screen go blank, as well as the Service Stabilitrak, and then just the other day I got the Battery Low, Start Vehicle message. I wonder if I have one of these bad grounds.

Follow the instructions in that video and Bulletin. Mine (and lots of other trucks) was doing the same thing and the dealer couldn't solve it. I checked both grounds (the G218 is on the drivers side but while you are there check the G210 on the passenger side). I have not had any issues since I cleaned and re-tightened both grounds.

I have an oil change coming up in a week and mentioned it to the dealership. They have been very good about fixing my issues. I will see what they say/do. If they don't fix it, I will just do it my self. I have had both A pillars off and popping the front dash part looks just as easy.

It is easy. The hardest part is getting to the ground studs once the dash cover is off. I found out if you remove the tweeters it makes the studs easier to reach (only 2 small screws holding in each tweeter). The whole process took me about 20 minutes.

thats the problem with most dealers and autotechs these days. if it doesnt throw a code or the computer cant tell them whats wrong they cant diagnose anything. it amazes me anyone who cant diagnose something without a computer to tell them whats wrong calls themselves a certified tech.

as i call a lot of microsoft certified system engineers. cant engineer their way out of a box.

Hey Guys might give that a try I uploaded some videos of my experiences too. I go to tge dealer on Monday lets see what they say perhaps it is that. Below are the links

First thing I would do just to satisfy the basics would be to run it over to my local auto parts store and have them test the battery and alternator. If all good there then I would suspect a bad connection at the power distribution box or a bad battery cable or possibly a bad ground.

I pull off the dash panel and removed then reinstalled the ground bolt. The insulation was touching it but not sure it was causing issues so we'll see. I cut the rubber trim out from around the bolt.

I've heard lots of on this issue and it was always a bad battery cable.
