Is there a Dexos Full Synthetic?

Is there a variant of the standard Dexos 5W-30 (oil type used by the V6) weight oil that is full synthetic? I had my oil changed today and was ensured that there was and this oil was used in my truck, however I am skeptical. This is reinforced by me thinking that the dealer also didn't rotate my tires when I asked.

Dexos1 is a certification. There are many Dexos1 approved 5W-30 on the market. You can view them here: http://www.centerforqa.com/dexos-brand1/I'm sure if you ask the dealership would tell you specifically what oil they used.

All of my tires have slightly different weights on the rims which is what I use. And I am aware of the certification, unfortunately the service advisor (one bad thing about this dealer is the advisors are very clearly not car people from simple conversations with them) didn't really understand and just said "dexos brand".

GM announced a Dexos change back in June 2016. Gen 1 Dexos is the synthetic blend. GM has now moved on to Dexos Gen 2 which is full synthetic. This is in regards to the upcoming ILSAC GF-6 oil specs for 2018. Gen 2 Dexos is a GF-6 oil. Improvements made are for small displacement high boost engines (like the 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 Ecotec turbo engines, etc.), better timing chain wear protection and much better fuel dilution protection due to GDI engine fuel contamination.

 

More than likely every GM dealer in the nation has been switched to Dexos 1 gen 2 oils.

 

And yes as others said, Dexos is GM's name for their oil requirement. We (GM dealer) use AC Delco Dexos bulk oil 5w30 and 0w20, both Dexos Gen 2 oils.

AC Delco oil is a good oil. There are UOA's showing good results with this oil. Now that Gen 2 is in the dealerships it would be interesting to compare more UOA's from the old formula.

So just curious, if you're buying oil at a local auto parts store or Walmart, does it matter if the oil bottle has the dexos 1 or the dexos 2 label. Does both meet the warranty requirement for a 2017 5.3L just wondering if it matters wether it's 1 or 2 on the bottle.

Isn't Dexos2 the diesel oil? Dexos1 Gen 2 is the synthetic for gassers?

Yea, see all this dexos 1 and 2 crap, I have no idea. All those approved D2 arnt all for diesel. That's why I asked, what label do I need to stay in warranty with a 2017 5.3L not that I really care, I'm just curious. Maybe 15HDriver will chime in, he'll know what's up.

Not 100% sure but I belive the Mobil 1 Dexos 0W20 is full synthetic. Was looking at a jug on the shelf this evening.

It was in a different jug with a diferent label for Canada. It said 'synthetic, but can't recall if it said full synthetic. I was a bit distracted by the price, which was 62.00 Cdn.
