So, if I HAD to sell.....

Agree with Vinemann about a RCSB Chevy Z71. Very good looking trucks and with a color matched topper/camper remind me of the old 97 2 door Tahoe Z71 which served well for 9+ years and 160K. If my needs change next truck will be a 4wd RCSB. Even with a 5.3 they move pretty good and would fly with a 6.2 engine. Around here RCSB fetch a high price come time to sell. Knightfall everything is negotiable so if they hardly budge from buyout price of lease just walk away. As others mentioned there won't be equity since it is a 2 year lease. Might also consider getting by with a tweener until new body style comes out or simply run the figures on a new 2017 since they are being heavily discounted. Any way you decide good luck.

I'm pondering the same thing as my commute has now tripled. I'm looking at the new Subaru Crosstrek. The biggest drawback is it is way low on power by every review, but size and functionality are perfect.

4Runners are nice, but they get the same if not worse mpgs than what our trucks get.

As a note, I owned a Forester for a while. Similar to a Crosstrek but with a larger body/bigger interior.

I was not impressed with the overall feel of the vehicle. It felt kinda cheap and light. Noisy on the freeway, weirdly rough over bumps, things like that. Decent from a MPG perspective but nothing exciting at all to drive. Really, a quite boring vehicle.

I heard the crosstrek is worse since it has a smaller engine. The newly redesigned crosstrek for 2018 is supposed to be much more solid and sporty to drive but keeps the 2.0 boxer-4 versus the 2.5 found in the outback and forrester. Might go drive one this weekend,

Subaru is known for being utilitarian.

I've owned four Subaru now, the last one was a nicely-equipped 2009 turbo Forester, most uncomfortable ride I had, definitely nothing more than an hour drive. We drove our 2500hd long distance because it was more comfortable. I daily drove a 97 Outback for years, just to keep miles off my truck...it was gutless, shifted funny, had 200k miles on it, never left me stranded and was better in snow and ice than the truck ever could be.

As I mentioned previously, a coworker bought a crosstrek, and his biggest complaint was that it's gutless and the CVS shifts odd. Overall he likes it, just wished it had more umph.

It's too bad they dropped the S-10 Blazer, that would have been a good compromise.

For the record the Subaru Ascent was confirmed for production and if it is SUV-y enough I'll definitely look at it. I have no experience with Subaru at all. Primarily GM, Dodge, and Nissan are my go-to brands. I like the Atlas but they're still a little pricey and I have no experience with VW, except for a VERY brief positive one while working with the Bundeswehr and they had some olive drab primer'd Amaroks and what looked like a vehicle similar to the Atlas that did well in the mountains of Bavaria and never left us stranded.

I'm also interested in the Bronco, though I've never really been a Ford guy.

Annnnnd Chevrolet just announced the Tahoe Custom. Which depending on how willing to deal dealers will get may be a top choice.

Utilitarian is one thing. Just plain boring and cheap feeling was another. I was so disappointed. I only owned it for 7 months. And it was nicely equipped, too. Leather and everything. Crappy stereo, crappy seats, crappy interior plastics, crappy glass on the windshield that was loud as hell (apparently they improved this in the 2017 versions), etc. The CVT in my 2.5 was kinda blah, and the engine was tolerable but not exciting. Even the test drive of the XT with the turbo was kinda borderline.

I'm sure the car is reliable and efficient - it'll get 20-30mpg all day long and do 300,000 miles if it's treated right. Tires and maintenance will be cheap. But man, I couldn't wait to get back into a full sized truck.

I have gone from:

1989 Dodge Ramcharger 4x4 (318)

1987 Dodge Ramcharger 4x4 (360)

2000 Dodge Durango 4x4 (4.7L)

2006 Silverado Crew Cab LS (4.8L)

2007 Sierra Crew Cab SLE (5.3L)

2007 Tahoe LTZ (5.3L)

2016 Forester (2.5L)

2014 Silverado High Country 4x4 (6.2L)

So maybe my expectations are a bit wonky, as I don't really like "car" based vehicles. I prefer the truck ride height and stiffness.

Right now, my current truck has one major problem - the 6.2L has basically ruined me for driving my wife's 5.3L Suburban. :)

' 15 Traverse AWD works as nice as my brother in law's Acura and dependable at a much cheaper price. New body style for the '18s give a negligible more room, but the '17s which have all the bugs worked out can be had at bottom floor pricing.

I doubt that unless it's an rdx. I have owned an mdx with sh-awd, and an rdx with a regular awd system, and there is no comparison at all. I doubt the traverse system is even close to sh-awd. That system is just awesome.

I was starting to think that this discussion would be better in the "Off Topic" section of this forum. However, I like the way that vehicles are being measured by how close they come to matching the attributes of a GM 1/2 ton. I enjoy renting different makes and models when travelling or driving my wife's car or taking a trip on my motorcycle. However, the more vehicles I experience and the more I read this thread, the more committed I become to keeping to a GM 1/2 ton!

Saw a Tesla Model X on the road last night... Seemed in the small SUV size range. If you can get over the whole fugliness of it the gas mileage would be unbeatable.

I agree with Don - after driving many things and reading many more reviews I would have trouble not having a 1/2 ton... and I really enjoy my Sierra. Although I also really enjoy my 2nd and 3rd vehicles too :driving:

Is that what a Santa Fe goes for? $27k? Sticker $37??

I remember when they were advertised for $17k.

Yup.. those were the days.. I remember when I was a kid, I went to the Chrysler dealership with my dad in 1973. He bought my mom a brand new town & county wagon off the showroom floor for $4200. Big ole green wagon with the faux wooden sides! I remember it had the 440 engine.
