Best stock replacement or next size up tires

Ive got 35000 on the stock 265/65/18 goodyears and I'm trying to decide what the best all Terrrain tire would be. When I say best I mean the best for balancing up and creating the smoothest highway ride. The main problem I've had with the stock tires is that they never seem to balance right. Right now I'm looking at the nittos, BFGs, and Michelins. Any advice is appreciated!

Michelins will be your best bet for smooth and quiet. They make up to a 286/65r18.

Nittos Terras are good light tires if you stay away from the LT sizes. I think they come in 285/60 before they get to the LTs. Poor wet traction though.

Wants smooth ride and is thinking BFG's? I am guessing you mean the KO2's? Which tires of those brands might be a good start. There is no "best", just search. 100's of threads here and across google asking the same question. Each situation is different. Other than "smooth ride" what else is important? Stay away from the most aggressive AT tires or hybrids for a smooth ride and anything LT will ride rougher. Do you off road? Do you tow? Is it all highway or street? How much rain do you see? Is MPG important? Tons of stuff to ask yourself, not sure why no one wants to research anymore and instead just ask a forum repetitive questions. Of what you listed your choices are then Michelin by far...

For a good all-terrain tire that is smooth and quiet, I've heard Nitto's new Ridge Grapplers are great. No personal experience on my part, but a friend has them on his Sierra Denali and loves them. Very surprising how quiet they are for the tread pattern. Worth checking out if you haven't already.

I'm also interested.

Looking to replace stock tires. I tow about 9000lbs, put lots of highway miles, and would like something that works well in snow during the Minnesota winter.

Any suggestions?

I have run BFG All-terrain KO's and Nitto Terra grapplers in snow. BFG's were hands down the better tire of those two. Far superior in snow and wet conditions in my experience.

Tires are a major expense for most people and the myriad of options make the selection difficult. Michelins on sale from Costco are a hard combination to beat, imo.

Agreed they are way too expensive, especially in larger wheel sizes. Buying all-terrain tires for 20" wheels is ridiculous. I will be going to "17 inch wheels when I need my next set of tires. The tires I buy are almost $100 cheaper per tire with 17" vs 20" wheels. After a couple sets of tires the wheels will pay for themselves, and I like the look of more rubber anyways. There are also more tire options in the 17" size.

I'm replacing tires this week on my Sierra. Going with Falken Wildpeak AT3W in P275/60R20 (vs factory P275/55R20). Will post an initial review later next week.

I put some 275/55/20 Cooper Discover At3 om mine and like them. I've had them on for about 4-5 months and zero complaints. I paid around $850 for all 4 mounted and balanced. We'll see how they do in the Wyoming winter in a couple months.

I second the Falken Wildpeak AT3. Smooth ride, fairly quiet for a all Terrain this aggressive.

I went with a P275/60/20 that measures 33.1" tall mainly to give the 20" wheel more rubber to ride on for a better ride. Only thing I would change if I did it all over is go wider like a 285 or 295. However I don't think those sizes are available in a P metric.

Running nittos ridge grappler on my 16 275/75/r18 load E i have about 9k miles and about 7months loving them over the stock good year sra. And truck looks better no rubbing

On to the fun stuff

Dry-truck handles well and can go past posted speed limit corners (+5-10mph) for a z71 and road variations can still spin with ease if i take traction control off and force it but moderate throttle in a straight line she hooks

Wet- can run decent speeds on the highway 65mph-70mph depending on road conditions. And I can spin with ease takes more abuse then the sra though. 4wd burnout not fun

Mud-does very well unless you don't give it enough pedal (haven't gotten stuck yet) left it in 2wd once and she did great but didn't have enough rain maybe 1.5" but had mud slinging off the back..

Snow-no snow in texas...

Road noise- you can hear a light hum but its not like a mud grip. I can hear it over my super 44 on highway speeds.

Ride-a little bit rough over bumps but i got load E tires

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
