It's all relative. Nothing in this world is 100% perfect. While I truly love my 2017 Sierra, there are a couple of annoying things that I have noticed with it:

  • The front steering rack/engine "skid plate" on the basic Z71 package is a cheap POS plastic part with two metal brackets. The factory aluminum upgrade is a couple of hundred dollars.
  • The aforementioned cheap junk replacement oil filters GM pushes on the public. The filters installed at the engine plant are the old design.
  • Lack of zerk fittings on ball joints, and the lack of size of those ball joints.
  • Why does my wife's '15 Chrysler 200S have a superior infotainment system? On her XM, there is a pic of the album cover of the artist that is playing. Also, she has pause, and playback.

The positives far outweigh these negatives. The fuel economy is superb, power is very adequate, wind noise is very low, quality of materials and assembly build quality superior to it's competiton. GM trucks are far easier to "work on" and service than the competition. Also, the styling, which is very subjective, is ahead of the others.

exactly word for word i agree with this statement!  Yeah, there is crap on these trucks for sure!  But this sums it up!

Thanks,  I am glad you did this and excellent pictures too!  I just spun this exact filter on a week or two ago on a 5.3L ecotec3  I think it's a damn good filter for 10.00 might be best bang for the buck?

I recently received a case of the assembly line quality PF-63 non E core oil filters with the red decal on them. They are a very heavy, well constructed filter made by Champion Labs.  I briefly ran a Car-quest Gold filter on it. There is one thing I noticed. The oil pressure when hot and at 1300 RPM and above cruising would always be right at 40 psi as indicated on the gauge with the original filter, and the new one from the case I received. With the Car-Quest filter, the indicated oil pressure was tick below the 40 mark while operating at the same driving conditions. Not a big deal, but still noteworthy.

Also, if I ever have a warranty claim, the dealer will have a hard time arguing any oil or oil filter related claim since an OEM branded filter was used.

So this is the old long filter that was always an option at least on the 350 engine anyway,  and I wondered why.  Now the new trucks are using larger oil capacities it makes sense to use it.

It is much larger than the PF48 that the 5.3 Vortecs used. However, the old 350 truck engines used the PF35, which is larger in diameter than this PF63, but about the same length.

Where did you find a case of the non ecore filters, I did buy a case of 12 off eBay, but upon opening them I noticed surface rust on the bare metal which would indicate they were exposed to moisture. And that's not good for the filter Media, so I decided not to use them. Also I looked like the acdelco sticker was slightly smaller and different design from the one on the truck so I had thoughts that the filters could be fake but I don't know . We're your filters individually wrapped in a plastic or just open in the box?

Received a dozen exactly as described.  I'm well satisfied, and for me, that's excellent.  Get some before they're all gone.

Wix oil filter just changed (last week or so) the filter number.  Used to be a 57045 and now its listed as a WL10255.  Only thing I see different in comparing the two is the bypass pressure changed from 12 to 22.
