Adding tow harness to 2006 Tahoe?

I'm looking at buying a 2006 Tahoe, it doesn't appear to have the tow package, and I want to add a hitch and 7 pin plug with brakes and charging option. Is the truck already wired and I just need to buy a harness ? Or do I have to add additional wiring to accomplish this ?

Might go to www.etrailer.com enter your vehicle info and theirs all kinds of towing equipment available for your Tahoe. I've used them many time good company lots of help videos you can look at.

You might see if your dealer's parts dept can bring up the diagram for your vehicle and see where all of the connection points are. I have a wiring manual for the NEW 07 trucks and SUVs but that will not do you any good as everything changed. I had a 99 Tahoe that came from the factory with both a hitch and wiring for a trailer. I am not sure when they stopped doing that as standard.

BTW on the 07 the harness came all the way from the front relay box all the way back to the bumper.

You could get a tahoe in 1999 without a tow hitch standard.  You could get anything without them, standard I believe was just the bumper mount.

Now it is coming back to me - the wiring was stubbed out behind the bumper in back - all I had to do was attach the plug. All the rig came with was the hitch platform/receiver.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.

    • Wouldn't swapping out the original AFM/DFM parts for a complete Delete Kit be the best route to go if one could afford to go that route?
    • It comes with directions but yes, generally, it's the same.  Also, get you the dipstick stuff to install dipstick so you have one.
