Third Sierra - convinced 3rd time’s a charm

I bought my first - a ‘16 SLT Z71.  Lots of issues.  Traded it for a fully-disclosed ‘16 Buy-back SLT 2wd.  Truck was equipped well, comfortable, no issues.  When a very uncommon 5.5” snow fell a couple weeks ago, I thought I might really should have bought a 4wd.   That caused me to discover the prominence of the buy-back, I had a branded title.   Unacceptable, and the dealership worked with me.  (Bonus:  the truck looks the same as my trade!)

 

observations/questions (in no particular order):

 

dont buy buy a buy-back, even though it is “fixed”

my new truck doesn’t have an RPO sticker in the glovebox, why?  I’d like to look at this

my truck doesn’t have a sticker in the door jam showing details like date of mfg, etc.  ditto RPO

I no longer have LED headlights.  Will the HID work well enough?

i don’t have (or want) Z71, just 4wd.   What suspension components am I likely to have? Z60?

 

overall, I shopped Tundra, Ram and drove by the Ford lot 2-3 times.   This is the best looking, most comfortable drive for me.  I bought a third one.  Any help with the observations above?

How do you know if your vehicle was a buyback?

The dealership disclosed it upon purchase.   I had to sign an acknowledgment.  They told me a couple things that didn’t turn out to be accurate but they worked to ensure ultimately I was satisfied.   To their credit.  I took a whipping on the trade, but no more than I would have under non-buy-back circumstances.  All I could ask.

An honest dealer? I always suspected there was one on the planet.

The whole no RPO or jam stickers is probably something I would go back to the dealer about and inquire where they are.  They might be able to explain.  Its hard to say without the sticker but maybe your window sticker explains something with the suspension? (any hints or disclosures).  I actually prefer HID because they create a little heat which can thaw out ice build up.  Some like the LED more but I was told the stock ones are not the greatest.

No hint on the window sticker.  My salesman (owner’s son) said he had no idea why there wasn’t an RPO sticker in the glovebox.

 

i had the LED heads on my other two trucks and thought they were outstanding.  I’ve not driven this one at night yet.   

 

I mentioned we just received 5.5” of snow.  I didn’t point out that I am 60miles north of the Gulf of Mexico.   We could use some snow driving tips from Vermonters!  

 

 To use the word anomaly would be understatement.  So the heat benefit of the HID is legit, but not super applicable.

Living down south 4wd is not needed for the once every few years a light snow or ice event may happen (it is usually gone in a day or so anyway). Those that think they need it to get around down here are the ones who probably shouldn't be drving those days in the first place. In all the years we lived in Michigan in the U.P and Minnesota 4wd was not needed but a few times to get around up north and had never needed it to get around in Texas. Might want to reconsider when you take in to account everything that comes with 4wd (added up front cost, financing, maintenance, repair, mpg, resale, ect). Now many buy it for the image and that is something you can't put a price on I guess...

Date of mfg missing? That's odd. Perhaps it was wrecked and repainted where sticker should legally be?

I've always remembered to keep good tires drive slow.  You'll get to know your truck and how it acts with low traction situations.  A 4WD isnt going to cost much more in terms of maintenance.  Front diff oil and transfer case is about it.

18s don’t have them anymore there’s a thread on here somewhere that talks about why and the reader/scanner you can use to scan the barcode thingy in the jam.
