Got rear-ended in my 2016

Hey guys, I live in California so obviously I'm not new to car accidents, however this time I'm driving a lifted zone 6.5 silverado.

Can you guys tell me what to look for as far as having the body shop check for the integrity of my lift after the accident? One thing for sure I noticed my alignment seemed a little off, placebo possibly? Anywho for sure my tailgate is off and my tonneau cover got screwed. Here are pics.

Ah that’s sad.   In Indiana I have a slightly longer than usual trailer hitch I attach in the winter time as a barrier between my bumper and anyone who isn’t paying attention on slippery roads and slides into me.  Hopefully your truck is fine.

You think your wheel alignment is off?  Did you lose control when the car hit you and smack in to the curb?

I was coming to a complete stop and had both hands on the steering wheel when I got hit. Didn't lose control but had the brakes fully engaged and the impact ( she was going like 25-30mph ) did move my truck slightly forward.

I hope it's just cosmetic, the lady was like wow nothing happened to your truck, I paused and looked at her and said yes something did happen to my truck, your car crashed into it.

People... Ugh

If the tailgate still functions id just move on with life.  That being said, I wasn't there and don't know how violent the crash was.

One thing I liked about my wrangler was the big soft plastic bumpers and my spare tire on the tailgate. Protected the body 100% in several accidents

never had any luck with the spare tire on the back , even a minor tap usually caused tail gate damage ,

I like having a pintel ball hitch in the receiver  saves your truck but does major damage to the car that hits you !

Sucks getting rear ended nobody wins , in new york we have YOUR - FAULT laws so no matter whos fault it is its your fault!!!

My sister was in a store shopping once a car hit her, "legally parked car" , the person left a note.

They later exchanged ins and info ,The person was apologetic said he was going too fast and lost control minor damage she took her car to be fixed 3 months later the insurance company she had  dropped her because she was involved in a accident , she explained the situation and was told it didn't matter who's  fault caused it  ,

they were allowed to cancel her because of NO-FAULT laws Hence in reality  YOUR-FAULT

Should have added, "Something did happen to my truck and my neck is starting to hurt too."  Irresponsible idiots.  Hope you get everything fixed up with as little stress as possible.  G/L.

Glad you're ok. Looks like you suffered a fairly big impact - the jeep looks much worse. I'm not sure if the traffic laws in Californiastan allow it, but here in FL, I also keep a ball hitch installed, as the other person mentioned above (never know when you might see a boat you want to buy, right?).

Been "tapped" twice in my previous trucks, with slight damage to the other offending vehicle, but none to mine. However, I'm sure a more forceful hit to the hitch could still damage my truck by pushing the whole hitch forward and bending some parts.

I can't answer your question about the lift and alignment, but maybe if you have a really good alignment shop they can go over it and advise you better on the issue.  If they say its OK, I would go back to driving it as usual.  Good luck!

Traffic laws here in California are pretty simple really, if you get rear ended it's automatically the other drivers fault. You just have to be careful that the impact of getting rear ended doesn't cause you to rear end the car infront of you cause that becomes a headache to deal with.

My major concern now is because my truck is lifted, is the insurance going to cover anything damaged to my modified suspension?

Glad your ok.    Just think your lifted truck saved your truck from further damage.   Which would be alot.  Would of hit the bed and maybe push it into the cab.

I had a lady hit me a low speeds and my sidesteps an being lifted/leveled saved my truck from worse damage.    Had a check in a week and now I am getting other things done when it is getting fixed.

one thing to remember though, if someone hits the receiver hard enough, it will bend the frame. A buddy of mine in VA is a body shop Manager and they get 2-3 trucks a year in that are fairly new that end up getting totaled due to frame Damage from having a hitch in.

That really sucks Arkenzo.  Terrible way to end the year.  Glad you are okay but these next few days feel yourself out for neck or back pain.  Hope your truck gets correctly repaired and insist on OE parts if anything needs replacing.

Her comment sounds innocent enough.  It is difficult to say/hear the correct words at such times.  Her car was hit above her bumper due to the height of your truck so the accident looks harsh.  Take your truck to a good frame and alignment shop for an assessment and get some peace of mind.  Use any insurance money to buy a custom rear bumper to compliment the brawn of your lifted truck!
