salvaged Silverado

Hi everyone. i am new to the forum with a SALVAGED 2017 silverado lt z71. This isn't my first silverado, but my first salvaged vehicle. i realize its always a gamble with these types of vehicles, but i rolled the dice and here i am. When i bought the truck i took a mechanic friend of mine with me and everything seemed to check out. it still has a couple little "details" here and there, but at less than half the cost of a brand new one i decided it might be a fun project. i decided to start an online thread to document my findings and let others learn from my experience (good or bad). Here are some pictures for you guys to enjoy. i will be posting more soon.

Good looking but if it was under water it may become a headache. Best of luck with it.

I bought a rebuilt salvage car in the 90s. It was a year old less than 1/2 of new. We used it 8 years gave it to my son as a first car. Later became my toy. It was 94 Z28. When I sold it got a third of my money back with 130K miles. There’s no warranty on a salvage car.

Vehicle was bought in Arkansas. So no water damage here. Vehicle had damage on the front right corner and the bed was also damaged.

There were about 1 million vehicles damaged or destroyed in Harvey. While many new vehicles were crushed, others made it to salvage auctions all over the country. They are now showing up on the streets as people bought them thinking they got a great deal and are now dumping them as the headaches of a flood vehicle start to become reality. I lost a vehicle myself and would not touch trying to save it. Repair costs would have quickly exceeded the cost of a new vehicle and you are sill stuck with a salvage vehicle no one wants and a new issue each week.

It's not just the mechanicals on a Salvaged vehicle -- many insurance companies won't insure them.  If you are thinking about buying one check with your insurance company first to make sure they will cover you.

Currently insuring with geico. They have no problem with the truck.

I’ve had the truck about a month now and haven’t had any issues so far. I drove a total of 4 hours today and hit 6000 miles.

I wouldn’t touch a water damaged vehicle either, I can’t imagine the electrical nightmare one would have to deal with.
