Disclaimer message on startup

Today when I started my truck a disclaimer message appeared on the MyLink display and I had to tap OK before I could use it. This is the first time I've seen this message. Is there anything particular that causes this to appear? I can't seem to duplicate it.

I see it every once in awhile.

It's most likely on a timed/pre-programmed schedule.

Makes the lawyers at GM sleep better at night.

Press OK and continue to stare at Google Maps while you drive :D

I’ve had my 015 since new pops up randomly every now and then. For awhile I was convinced it was set to the first of the month but it was just dumb luck in my case that’s when it was coming on. Then I was convinced it was after the truck sat so many days without being driven (I don’t use drive it in the winter) cause it would pop up every time I would start it. Now I’m convinced it’s every so many cycles of the starter. By this time next year I’m sure I’ll be convinced it’s something eles...

I do know if you don’t push ok it won’t go away. One time I drove 30 miles to work with it on, shut the truck off came back 8 hours later to drive home and it was still on. So I went ahead and pushed OK cause l wanted to listen to the radio again...

The next one you’ll really like when you get in start it up and out of no where you here the nice On Stupid lady say “ this vehicle is connected to OnStar limited services” ... If you try and talk to her though she won’t say anything eles. I’ve sweet talked her, I’ve talked dirty to her, and I’ve called her names yet nothing. It’s like she’s my Bizarro wife cause if I do any of these to my real wife in the truck I get yelled at...

Isn’t  technology  great ...

There must be some evidence to support such random warnings have some effect on our behavior.  This irregular warning doesn't bother me and it keeps me reminded of the technology behind these trucks.  You never need to re-string the tuner on your radio!

That little plastic bulb near the windshield in the center of the dash?

It tracks driver eye movement over miles traveled.  The variability algorithm is pre-set from the factory.   If it determines your eyes have spent too much time - while transmission is in clunk, I mean drive - looking at things besides the roadway (like our bizarro wives), this will pop up.

Normal.

Lawyer installed CYA.  Comes on either every so many key cycles or miles driven.  Honestly, I gave up trying to track either possibility LOL.

But we’re new people after reading this.  Yes?    Vastly changed and improved.

Mine does it quite often.. Drives me crazy. I find it ironic that to read it you must take your eyes off the road. Stupid stupid stupid. Bean counters and lawyers and irritate me.

It appears as soon as we crank.  Before putting into gear.

Yes.  Today.  Got it again.

I get that message sometimes as well. I just want to know if there's a way I can disable it. It's not telling me anything I don't already know.

Perhaps you're being sarcastic? Isn't that a light sensor for the headlights, when they're on auto?

Of course he's being funny!   The purpose of the message is for a reminder.  It is not unlike the warnings to do up your seatbelts.  It is stuff we know but we need a little reminder once in awhile.  No need to disable a safety feature in your truck.

My fault.  I thought I was being funny but apparently it was, only to me.   My wife has this look she gives me in these situations.  No emoji I have can capture it exactly...

ill try try to behave.

This pops up once a month or so on my truck. I don't even think anything of it like some people apparently do. Takes about one second to tap ok.

got the message this morning as a matter of fact! It's random, not too often and doesn't bother me at all.

Mine does that too.  Even the app asks me every so often if I still own the vehicle.

    • Did you ever get this worked out? Mike is doing the two start thing now too. This is after a new camera back in December.
    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because it’s in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
