I was never a fan of the "auto" setting on the 4WD selector, but for whatever reason I tried it today in the snow and ice here in Colorado. I flipped to the 'off-road' page of the DIC and noticed it said AWD, not 4WD, with all 4 tires in green. I didn't realize it's a whole different mode, assumed it would switch at will between 2WD and 4WD. It was quite nice to have that extra traction going down the road and not have to shift back to 2WD to enter a parking lot without binding up while turning.

I always put mine in AUTO whenever there's any type of moisture falling from the sky.  I only use 4HI/4LO when I'm off pavement.  Otherwise, I'm always in 2HI.

I'm currently making a list of everything in this thread, I'll post when I finally reach the end.  Finding some really interesting features on these trucks, I have tried a few on my Cruze, some of them have worked there too.

Here’s the thing. It only activates for me in San Diego when it’s > 85* outside, and as I’m going down the grade I’m lightly dragging the brakes. The DIC Chime’s and says grade braking activated. At this time, it maintains my current speed with no throttle input. If I hit the brake, it disengages. If I throttle up, i speed up, if I let off it will hold the speed at which it activated. It’s a totally different experience than putting it in M3 and using the throttle to maintain speed. I wish I could get to my target speed then select cruise control, and then do something like hold down the hill descent braking lever in my truck to force it to activate the grade assist feature at the speed.

I've never noticed mine doing that.  Mine active year round up here in the desert.

So, I’m sitting in my truck after getting home from work & I notice the mileage is at 16061. I think that’s cool, but I should set one of the screens to go with it. In scrolling I find that the Transmission Fluid Temp is at 162 degrees & think I’ll just wait for it to drop to 161 with the engine off. Now I’ve been sitting here a while watching that temp & it drops from 162 to 160. It flips between the 2 before settling on 160. I’m guessing it only reads in 2 degree increments? So, I crank it up & watch it go 160, 162, then 163, 164, 165... Hmm. I turn it off & watch it go back down in the opposite order. Then it goes to 158, 156, & is now at 154 after several minutes of sitting & watching...
Kinda weird how it seems to only read in even numbers below 162, but reads every degree above that.

Now it’s going between 153 & 151 ??‍♂️

You'll probably find if you switch to metric, it will be exactly 1 degree (celsius) at a time.

That's what I was trying to say, when I turn on the fogs the other lights come on except for the headlights, as if I turned on the parking lights, but I didn't.

If I understand correctly, fog lights, at least in actual fog, are intended to be run as the only light source so it sounds proper to me. Normal headlights are so bright that they reflect the fog. Fog lights are lower powered and therefore don’t reflect back as much and blind you. Fog lights are designed to be ran in fog without use of the primary lights.

That said, I have found fog lights useful to illuminate a wider area than my regular headlights in conjunction with regular headlights. i.e. in a dark neighborhood and trying to watch for pedestrians around corners.

Something that the salesman at the dealership showed me, was when you're hooking up to a (pull behind) trailer, open the tailgate and loop one of the cables over the post.  Puts the tailgate/backup camera, if equipped, right over the ball.  He had shown it to me to line up the trailer and ball, but you can do that just fine with the tailgate closed.

I didn’t know whether to put this here or in the tail lights with cargo lights thread. But [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

This is probably a fairly obvious one, but it’s been asked about many times.

Power fold mirrors inward by holding the lock button on your key fob a couple seconds on the second click.

Edit to keep from adding another post:

Hold unlock for couple seconds on second click of the fob to roll windows down.

2015.5 Silverado 2500 HD LTZ and this feature does not work on my truck, does it have to be enabled somewhere? " Hold unlock for couple seconds on second click of the fob to roll windows down"

I does have to be enabled at least on my 2016. There is a setting that you have to change on the radio. I think it might be under convenience??? I disabled it on mine because I don't trust myself and fobs. Knowing me, I would accidentally do it during a rain storm and have a real mess. But also security wise, if I did accidentally do it  someone could easily get in my Silverado and take whatever they wanted... City life sucks.

Thanks Mike, I will look today...

@navybuff, I know it worked on my 2015.  Like @mikeyk101 said, you'll have to turn it on in the vehicle settings under the convenience package.

When you go to unlock the truck, and do not want the windows down, let go of the unlock button at the second flash of the turn signals.  If you hold it past that, the windows will roll down.

    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
