Did You Ever Used a Truck Bed Cover ?

Anything bought through the dealership isn’t cheap now a days especially. There are all kinds out today in the market and mostly owned and distributed by the same company.
There’s a place called Discount Hitch on I45, Houston Tx that I visited last year and was amazed at their enormous selection of bed covers. You can see for yourself the actual differences between them all, material used, functionality and most of all “Security” which is why I highly recommend the aluminum interlocking type with ball bearing rolling rods moving in metal guide rails because of security being #1.

I have no doubt the roll lock is very secure. The installer could have been the reason for it leaking and the latch problem I had. One of the many reasons for being on a website like this, you get experiences from many people.

I have the Extang Trifecta Signature Series tri-fold, It’s a non-vinyl canvas type material cover that is impervious to water. Even long exposure to lots of water. I’m one of those guys that runs my truck through the tunnel wash and the high pressure jets don’t harm it. The only water intrusion is around my tailgate but that’s minimum because I have put the sealing gasket back there - and given the design of the gate, that’s not super effective.

Wife asked once about security. Yes you could slice it with a knife. But nothing provides absolute protection from someone motivated to get in.

Ive had this cover on a Tundra, F150 and now on my 3rd Sierra.

First thing I did with this last truck was get the Access cover put on. It is that great.

I was disappointed how much dust got in it and water. A unacceptable amount. I found a sealing kit online, and it helped tremendously. Now, even through a car wash, it stays pretty darn dry inside.

Not having been a tonneau or cap guy over the years, I find myself in need. I've already decided I will probably go with a Retrax Pro, but that's pushing $2,000 that I can't spare at the moment (it's racing season, so I have road trips, hotel, race fees, etc costs to cover). So, the plan is to throw on a soft cover for now and get the Retrax next year.

I'm just looking for protection from rain and one that doesn't flop too bad in the wind going down the road. Would you guys recommend a tri-fold or a roll up?

I’d look for a used one if you’re going to replace it after you’re done with racing season. I’ve owned a huge amount of trucks with bed covers and the best is RollNLock or Retrax. Buying the best is an investment of sorts cause cause you get what you pay for. Good luck!

Check with LMC truck I can’t remember how new truck model they’ll go. I got one on there for my 65 GMC that was pretty good for a cheap one. Was on there for 4 years till I sold it.

I have the Retrax Pro and would never use anything else. It locks fully closed or at any point along the rail, yes you give up a little bed space at the top for it. One thing I really like is being able to stand on it if you need a high platform to do just about anything, I've backed up to trailers and stood on it to change bulbs, I've sat on it many different times to watch races, parades and other events.

Not sure where your located but hit up your local Craigslist around here I see used covers for sale alot a times from guys who leased their truck. Buy it, use it for race season, sell it for what you bought it for, get the one you want. Also hit up your local truck accessory places see if they got any used or “damaged” ones. Also EBay sellers will sometimes have ones the boxes get F’d up in shipping so the sell them at a discounted price also EBay has the last two months had a one day 15% off anything sale (up to 100 bucks) right before Father’s Day and the 4th. Put a WTB ad with your location on the classified page on this site and also check the classifieds on here. Check the clearance/scratch & dent pages of the big on line truck accessories dealers. If your any good at the track see if a local accessories dealer wants to sell you one at cost for a sponsorship spot on the race car/truck/bike/boat/plane/horse/dog/marathon running spouse/lawnmower/turtle whatever...

I have a Truxedo roll up on my 01 2500HD that’s 7 or 8 years old now still looks good (with some maintenance) almost 0 flapping (has adjustment screws both sides), Velcros still good, and nothing has broke yet. Not 100% weather proof but I didn’t expect it to be. The model I have they don’t make anymore (trax tonneau) but if someday I decide to get one for my CC I’ll go with them again. Also recommend getting the stake pocket covers( there’s a guy who makes them for the 14+ trucks) and a tailgate seal if your worried about weather/dust in the bed.
