GM Building Previous-Generation Trucks Until Late 2019

That is quite an interesting move. Is this the norm with GM?

Don't get me wrong, I love my 2018 but there is also some nice features in the 2019 that moving forward for them at this point would make more sense and improve the 2019 in a mid-cycle refresh instead of still producing 2018's.

I wonder how the transaction prices will be on the K2 2019s, since they are kind of new and old at the same time.

This does not make much sense at all.

It cuts into the sales of the new 2019 T1 platform.

Not really. New truck sales is an ongoing thing. As long as they're selling new trucks, they're happy. Profits are BIG on either model.

The bubble will burst when we hit the next recession.

Truck and SUV sales will tank just like they did back in 08-11

Or when Gas hits the $4 and up mark again. It is just a matter of time.

I’m wondering if they are having supplier problems for the 2019’s and can’t keep production up to match demand. These things are flying off the shelf where I live.

New month and GM just reduced the incentives on the 2018's.

Hell, the exact truck I just bought less than 2 weeks ago from the same dealer would now cost me $6,000 more.  Well, I simply wouldn't have e bought this truck at that price...

I think the rebates come out a varying points during the month, not just on the 1st.  My guess is they'll be back to at least where they were in a few days or week and good through 11/30/18.

My question on this build extension is what year do they continue to title the 2018's?  Are they really going to build, and customers buy "new" 2018 trucks well into 2019 when they typically would be producing the next model year (2020)?  Won't the value of the 2018's be that much less (even though the truck is physically new) because it will be deemed as a couple years old when purchased?

No its like thr 07 classic or the 07.5 transition between nnbs nbs and nnbs.  Its smart becsuse some people want the newest truck but those 19s are butt ugly. I like th3 face theyre doung it

Ram is doing the same thing. They'll just call it a 1500 "classic". Im surprised there is a big enough demand considering the competition.

It makes sense for buyers like me.  I bought my 2018 in September, but I wanted a 4x4 truck under $40k CAD, in a double cab.  It's now November, and I can't get that as a 2019.  GM can't afford to not sell me the truck I want for a few months, until they start pumping out 2019s in all configurations, and finally slashing the prices on them to a level I can afford.

And of course, as mentioned, many of these K2 2019s will be sold for business use, where the buyer cares more about price and capability, than the latest tech.
