Rear window leak

Had my truck in for the sealant job and not 36 hrs it was leaking again, rather than having the dealer try it again, scratch more interior panels or have to replace the window and scratch the paint etc, I decided to try something.

I wound up buying the Permatex window and glass sealant. Masked off the back window and ran a bead of it along the top of the window. The tip that comes with the tube is small enough to get in between the window and spoiler. This product is quite a bit thinner than the Kent sealant which is what I wanted to get down in every nook and cranny. Let it cure for 24 hrs before driving and waited a week to try the water test.

Time will tell but after dumping two 5 gallon buckets around the back window and spoiler it isn’t leaking at all.

I figure this probably isn’t a permanent fix, but if it can at least hold me over until GM comes up with a better fix or a new window design that doesn’t leak, it’s a win in my book.

Disclaimer: not sure if it’ll work for you and have no idea if it voids the warranty, but it is also clear and looks identical to the Kent sealant so given the non-detail oriented nature of the techs at the dealer, doubt they would notice. I wanted to have mine at least attempted to be repaired once by the dealer so it’s documented.

There was someone way back in this thread who used that flowable silicone and stopped his leak (think it eventually came back).. I was thinking of running some of that along the top of my replacement window as a precaution.

The dealership's glass company replaced my window today. It took them about half a day. They said that they have done quite a few now and none have leaked after. They did a fantastic job. Even returned my truck to my workplace for me. Waiting a couple of days before I run it through the car wash.

Great to hear. Make sure you check the rear slider. They forgot to hook up the power to kine when they replaced the glass

Same here they forgot to hook up something. Now my rear defrost will not work.

Add another to the group. Now I have to find a dealer that can actually fix it.

Not sure on build date but i bought the truck early Feb 2019 and it just rolled off the truck; I have 9k miles.

Which one did they install as the replacement? FUYAU or VIRTO and the E# ?

First time posting. 06/19 Build rear window leak with bad staining in the head liner. Just noticed it today as I was getting my daughter out of her car seat.

Let the warranty journey begin!

Was just thinking out loud. What about getting some clear flex seal tape tucking it up under spoiler and press it against the back cap of the truck, down in the channel at top of window and up over the top edge of the glass. Then use a razor knife to trim the excess off flush with the glass. Not sure you could effectively do it with the spoiler on but it might be a better, less messy temp fix than caulk if you had the spoiler off.

If you could get that tape to stick real good along the entire length of the window top it would create a membrane barrier like on a flat roof.

Who wants to give it a try?
