True but it will force GMC and the dealers to take action immediately and it might make it easier for us to get out of these vehicles or into a new one with less of a headache

What about lemon law to achieve the same thing?

In the long run not worth the time and effort. I (stupidly) after having a 2014 with the vibration issues (it had 0 other issues and was a great truck fit and finish wise) bought a 2019 that doesn’t shake, but has a ton of other problems.

I made some fixes myself to the window and if they don’t work, I’m going to get rid of mine for sure. I had a trade in offer for exactly what I paid for it so going to cut my losses and give another mfg my business. I realize the grass isn’t always greener but would rather not give GM the time of day at this point.

yeah I just want out of mine.  I spent about 3 K on wheels and tires and a leveling kit and another 2,500 bucks on a shell.  The truck looks amazing but what a disappointment.  I had a Toyota tundra for 17 years with not a single issue and decided to try GMC...….never again.

yes that will work too but I think it would be good to pressure GMC on a national level so they stop messing with everyone and their time to go through the process of first seal the window, then seal again, then replace the window.  By the time they are done your truck looks used and you've wasted so much time with them.

I haven't posted before, and generally never do, but felt compelled to as I've just had my 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 (built in 10/18) repaired. I got the same runaround at the dealer as everyone else. My dealer actually showed me a sandwich bag full of gaskets that GM had sent them, but they had no TSB or instructions what to do with them. They sent me on my way with water leaking in my back window. Luckily I have space in my garage and a 2nd vehicle to drive until I could figure out what to do. I immediately knew not to waste anymore time with them. I operate a large service company with over 350 vehicles on the road, so I took my truck to our trusted body shop that we've used for years. They went ahead and ordered a factory rear sliding window and when it came in they noticed that the factory window came with something referred to as "beetle tape" over the clips that fastened the window unit to the body. This was unusual as they've never seen that. This immediately worried them that the clips had become a known issue. Sure enough they tore mine down and found spider cracks in the glass around both top clips. I had only noticed the water leak on the driver side, but the passenger side was cracked as well and it would have been a matter of time before that side leaked too. The owner of the body shop consulted with me that he wouldn't put the new window in if it was his truck, because "tape" is not going to permanently stop a leak and by design the clip location is putting stress on the window when snapped in causing fractures in the glass. So he proposed coating the entire crack area and clip area in clear urethane. The location of these clips is well out of sight and only visible after a complete tear down of the rear upholstery, rear seats, and top spoiler. He did all of that and we've now been through many heavy rain periods and several washes without a drop. There could be multiple problems, but as I see it, its not the spoiler, its not the gap between the body and the window, its not gaskets or sealant. Its a poor design revolving around these "clips" and GM now knows about it because new factory replacement windows are coming in with beetle tape over the clips. I thought I would at least share my experience and the fix. Good luck everyone

Thanks for sharing.  Any pictures of the "beetle tape" or the clips?  Don't the non-sliding fixed position windows use the same clips?

Probably butyl tape.

Finally got my rear window replaced on 2/21/20, we'll see how long it stays dry.  Dealership I have been dealing with is a HUGE dealer with extremely subpar service consultants!  Wasn't contacted when window arrived, had to stop by and learn it had been there for weeks.  Dropped truck off and was taken great care of and request for a service loaner was quickly fulfilled.  Was told it would be at least a day possibly day and a half as they had to do the oil lines, recalls, and window.  Next day I waited until 1500 to call and check on truck and was told my service adviser was gone today but appears my truck was done in the AM and no one called.  Picked up truck and noticed muddy footprints on back seat headrest, all over the back of my front passenger seat and console, and all over the floor.  I understand the floor but damn, could they not look over the truck and put 5 minutes of effort to clean it and make the customer feel they care?  When I walked up to the service consultant he looked at me, picked up his things, and then proceeded to leave for the day without saying a word to me.  GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!  Speaking of service, the oil lines were also replaced which the recall states is to be done with an oil change and new filter.  Checked the oil level and it was barely on the dipstick.  Spoke to the service manager who said "Warranty work only pays for 8 qts of oil".  Really, as a huge dealership your only going to put the minimal amount of oil versus filling it.  Absolutely amazes me how poorly GM treats the customer.  Hopefully the window remains leak free.

I feel for all of you dealing with this unacceptable treatment over a "new year" poor design issue that continues into subsequent years.

Are you disclosing the window leak issue to the other manufacturer during the trade?  If not, are they not curious as to why you are trading a virtually new truck for another brand?

Great question, I’m a very honest person and would hate to pass on this trouble to someone else. That being said, the offer I got was from a gmc dealer who also owns a ford dealership and they are aware of the issue. They said they’d fix it before putting it on the lot. I feel like that’s fair and they can work on the truck as long as they need before selling it without me being the one that’s affected when it’s out of commission. If I go Ram or Toyota, haven’t decided if I’ll disclose or not - in all honesty probably not.

It rained yesterday and the fix I did on my own seemed to keep the water out so cautiously optimistic but time will tell.

Based on my non scientific Google research the E number and 43r numbers have to do with Europe safety standards. The important things are manufacturer fuyao vs Vitro, and model number which is M7035 (original design on my 2019 leaker) and M1235 (new design on my 2020 that also leaked and was replaced with a like M1235 that hasn't leaked YET)

I was out of town when the body shop found the cracks around the clips. Sorry, I wish I had some photos to pass along but I don't. I called it "beetle tape" It is butyl tape that is now covering the clips on these replacement windows. It rained all night here and I purposely left my truck out in it. Not a drop and dry as a bone. Again that's an original repaired window (not replaced) that had the clip locations sealed with urethane. I'll keep this post updated as time goes by.

For all you guys that have been posting recently (after page 80 or so....) Can you all post your build dates and model years as well? I (and my lawyer) who monitors this page would like to keep track of how bad the problem is (is it continuing into the 2020 model year.) I think it will help us all eventually. I know some people have said they have a 2020 leaking, and I know there's even a couple 2500 2020's leaking too.

I did. He said all I would do is make him rich, we would get nothing. And what we would get we wouldn't see for 10 years.

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
