Lq9 swap VATS questions

Hey guys,

First time poster hopefully not breaking any rules.

I have a few questions relating to vats and the bcm.

Im swapping a lq9 from a 2002 escalade into a 2001 silverado that has a l31 in it

My questions are:

1)Can i just swap the pcm from escalade into the silverado without activating the vats?(both has the 0411 pcm)

2)Or do i have to swap both the pcm and bcm so that the vin matches on both modules?

is this even an option?

3)what are the things that the pcm checks for when deciding if it is going to pass vats or not.

Im asking all of this because hptuners is out of the question rightnow, nobody has it where i live.

Thanks in advance

As far as I know, you aren't going to get away without some kind of tune for this swap. L31 in a 2001 truck? Thought they only put the 5.7l in trucks until 2000.

I’ve seen people swap in used pcm and just doing a relearn and it works, but thats a pcm from same model year.

Yup l31 in a 2001. Its a “400ss” stepside assembled in mexico i think.

Really hoping i dont have to buy hptuners just yet

No need to swap computers it will run with the5.3 tune until you have time to get the tune figured out . Black bear can flash it for you for a reasonable price

Update: it started up

swapped both pcm and bcm.

did a few key relearns, dont know if it was necesary because it was the maf acting up. Unplugged the maf and started right up.

Going to try and swap back to the silverado bcm because of some quirks like unable to turn off the headlights and a weird clicking sound when i first key on almost like its trying to pwm a relay.
