The truck was running fine, one day it just stalled while driving.  Would not start, towed it home and put it on the trickle for a day.  Started right up and I ran it for 10 days and it did again.  towed it home tried the trickle charger again, will not start.  Replaced the Alt. and had the battery tested, said it had a full charge with no bad cells.  Fuel pump bad?   Would it have run for 10 days after the first episode if so?  HELP!!! thanks!!!!

You say it would not start. Would the engine crank or was the power completely gone? Did your radio and all the still work?

Just wanting to know if this is a no crank or a no start issue.

I am assuming it is cranking but not starting. Check for spark and fuel both. While it is coil over you could be loosing power some place as well as not getting fuel pressure.

I'm sure you know that you meant volts, not amps, but that aside, you need in the neighborhood of at least 12 volts cranking for the electronics to fire the engine. Given that the instrument panel gauges can be notoriously off by a fair bit, I would have your battery load tested, a full charge on an old battery can be misleading. How old is your battery by the way? After you get this sorted out, at the very least invest in a voltmeter, that will give you at least a starting point, resting voltage should be at a minimum of 12.4V, 12.6V more better.

Yes Volts.  Battery about 3 years old.  Had it tested at the local store.  549 cold cranking and said all cells were good. Told me it was charged.  Why would it run for 10 days after the first incident and then do it again?   Thanks for your help all...

Have my battery out and taking to a battery guy who can check it with a load on it, I trust him.  I will get that one if its good back in or a new one and check the fuel pump humming first.   ill go from there with your suggestions.. thanks again.

sounds like fuel related. I would check pump pressure .. but even if that's good, the pump could have a sporadic issue.  In your case, I would change the pump anyway since your sending unit is bad...take care of it all at the same time.  Also fuel filter for sure if you haven't.

Make sure all your ground connections are clean and tight.  If you have to take them off, clean them up so it is good metal to metal contact and tighten back down.  A bad ground can cause all kinds of issue.  Also make sure your cables are good and no corrosion inside the casing.

I’ve never cleaned the rear engine block ground.  I always wonder when that may become an issue...  :\

Replaced battery today, cleaned up terminals.  Started up ran for a couple minutes. sputtered and shut off, started up a cpl more times and sputtered and shut off.  Won't start again.  Can hear the fuel kicking on.
