2008 GMC Yukon 4.8

Sorry if this has been asked before.  I have a 2008 GMC Yukon SLE 4.8L and when we start the vehicle there is a grinding noise.  Assuming it is the starter.  Now i have replaced the starter a couple of years ago now.  The grinding noise does not happen everytime but it also does not start once in a while on the first try.  Any thoughts or ideas?

Reading between the lines.

You replaced the starter and it didn't make any noise until recently?

Or it made noise since install?

Remove the starter and check for signs of wear on the fly wheel.

Starter may be binding up.

The grinding noise has only been recent.  The starter has worked perfectly since the install.  Is the fly wheel easily replaceable or should i take it somewhere to fix?

How about a new starter first.

Fly wheel replacement requires transmission to be removed.

thanks for the info.  I had the starter checked out and all is good with it.  Would you recommend at this point to replace it or just take to a auto repair shop?

Pull the starter and you can see the flywheel teeth. Manually turn the engine (via crankshaft bolt) and continue inspecting the teeth for missing teeth or severe damage.

If none, then the starter or solenoid likely has a dead spot.
