That's not how averages work. Your best was 29.2, your average can't also be 29.2. You average is far lower, and your worst must be quite low to get an average of 20.

I have averaged 23 to 25 in my hemi v8 and guys on this forum are doing better than that even with the 5.3. So that screenshot there is very unimpressive. Not saying you can't do far better with the turbo than you can in a v8, but that screenshot you posted is not showing you what you think it is, that's all we're saying. In fact its showing you that you got pretty miserable mileage all things considered.

Ok I’m not going to explain math to you. The average and best were many miles apart. My average dropped during 50+ miles of aggressive driving. I said that already. At one point prior to the pic I was averaging 29.2.

It must suck to have a 4cyl be just as quick as your Hemi and with better mileage 😂

Yeah and I was born yesterday. You said at the top of your post "I'm averaging 29.2" and then posted a pic showing "best = 29.2" the exact same number down to the decimal point. Hmmmm. Yeah it's me that doesn't understand math. Rather than admit you made a mistake you're going to just double down on being a child; carry on.

Although i havent driven the 2.7 it is interesting to me , my question is if I ordered a ‘21 WT with the 2.7 would i get the “improved” engine or get the original 2.7 ? I was wanting to get a 4x4 and level with biggest tires i could get under it . Is there anyone with this combo and still getting decent MPG ?

I waiting on the slow truck from Santa Rosa, NM at the trail head.....about to pick up my 2022 LTD Custom Trail Boss L3B and will let you know. It was built in Fort Wayne on 10/16/21.

Liking this engine more and more. Some people have doubts because the belief is the 4 cyl is overstressed when compared to the V8....all I can say is that it gains speed seemingly effortlessly, merging on the highway today I just nudged the throttle, picked out my spot, and slid into traffic, glanced down at the speedo and the needle was just past 80mph😲. Smooth, quiet, and not revving like crazy, I've owned 8 four cyl vehicles over the years, this 2.7 is in a league of it's own.

Not sure why one needs the 10 speed, so far  8 speed flawless. Early days maybe but the Dexos HP most likely will solve most issues.

I'd love to hear more towing reports. Do any of you guys tow 7000+ pound RV's long distance on a regular basis?

I towed this about 100 miles.  It was around 7000 pounds with trailer and machine.  Did OK but wouldn't do it everyday.  So the 2.7 gets excellent gas mileage and can tow a good size load when necessary.  The truck works perfect for me!

In 309 miles  (which includes where the salesman had it idle about 2 hours before we picked it up) 🙄     I filled it up w/ 16.1 gallons a few days ago. Thats 19.2 MPG average.

I am seeing DIC averages on different legs from 21-25 mpg ranges. I do some trick wear in techniques to optimize ring seal and once we get 500 miles on it will change out the OEM oil and oil filter to emphasize  some of that change.

This is operated at 7000-9000' msl Colorado Mountains and I am running 85 octane regular fuels.  I will be using CENEX gasolines almost exclusively. That first tank mentioned above at 19.2 mpg with a lot of idle was Conoco 85 octane.  The torque and power is smooth and amazing really.  Quiet which I really appreciate.

Winds here are brutal. A good testing place.

Because the 10 does everything the 8 does , but slightly better.  This is no knock on the 8 .

I can’t find anything wrong with my 8 speed. Does quite well. I can’t hear or feel any knocks.
I'm very happy with my 2020 Silverado 1500 2.7 with the 8 speed.
Going on 2 years with it now.

I also think the 10 spd would be an improvement.  It shifts great when you drive it like you stole it but I want it to shift more smoothly at a normal pace.

The fluid change TSB helped but wife's Tahoe is still much smoother in all manner of driving.

Otherwise good truck and the turbo engine has been stone axe reliable going on 3 years now.

    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
    • yes, leaking exhaust will mess up o2 sensor readings, which in turn messes up fuel trims.
    • 286,740 Mile Services   8/6/2026   New AC Compressor. Refrigerant oil and dye, evacuate and charge system.  New exhaust system from cat back.  New Iridium plugs plus replace #3 coil Repair/rewire headlamp wiring (passenger side) and replace all forward bulbs. Polish lenses of both assemblies.  Pull rear rotors, clean and adjust parking assembly. Inspect, clean and grease front calipers. Check pads and shoes.  4 wheel power bleed of brake system. Dot 4 Reset idle speed 50 rpm higher New Serpentine belt.    Will need new pads in the rear in about 5K more miles.    Tax Title and License out the door just short of a grand.    AC clutch had bitten the dust. 1 year warranty on the pick and save replacement. Thing will make a Polar Bear cry Uncle.  He spent quite some time on the wiring. It was in the harness and he does nothing half. I got off cheap. I have considerable more light down the road. Sylvania Silver Star replacements.  Gas seal between the porcelain and shell of plug #3 was blown, cooked the coil. That was the cold miss.  Love the new exhaust. I can sneak into the neighborhood again.  Nice to have a working parking brake again. Belle Tire never got it done. That was disappointing.    This was one of her bigger bills and still way cheaper than a payment even given the oil consumption. This thing cost me under a hundred a month in repairs and normal routine costs. What is my incentive to replace it? 🤔
