My 2022 LTD 8 spd shift is undetectable unless I manually down shift which  I do at  times descending steeps mountain roads up here. They must have reprogrammed the LTD and since this is first run of trail boss 2.7 setup they got it right.

I just drove it to get my new tags at the county courthouse and going saw 22.1 mpg @60 mph into a 40 mph wind. On way back @60 mph saw 28.2 MPH with same wind on relatively flat road. It has almost 600 miles on the odometer now. Love this thing.  Its 748 lbs more than the Honda Ridgeline Sport  AWD.

I think the “it’s a 4cyl” guys have been shut up. Sure we would all love the sound of a V8 but other than that, that’s about all we are missing over the 5.3.

I can't hear much anymore unless I have my VA issued hearing aids in. When I do have them installed in the ears its ( 2022 LTD 2.7 T L3B)  still quiet!   I did hear a rock that stuck in between the RR rotor and pads....LOL

Not sure why one needs the 10 speed, so far  8 speed flawless. Early days maybe but the Dexos HP most likely will solve most issues.

Because the 10 does everything the 8 does , but slightly better.  This is no knock on the 8 , as my 2016 Sierra had the 8 speed and it was perfect . .

Think you posted that same post a few days ago. I would be happy with either but in the trail boss until 2022 you couldn't even get a 2.7T L3B and thats what I wanted.

I DO think they have reprogrammed this 2022 LTD Trail Boss Custom vs what I have read earlier versions.

I wanted basic not the bells and whistles.  2 extra gears not worth waiting for me.

Is it mainly fuel economy the 10 speed does better?  I know some say the 10 speed shifts smoother but seems like the 8 speed with the new fluid can shift fairly smooth as well.

I would say a little better Fuel Economy , little better acceleration .  Again not a huge difference but i'm sure eventually all of our rucks will have the 10 like Ford has already done.  I just want to reiterate i have zero issues with the 8 speed but the only reason the 10 came out was to improve on an already good thing.

Fully agree however I gave up my RUCK in 1989 before the USN and ARMY could try to kill me more.....LOL

I totally get it mate and you got yourself the updated 420 LB feet of torque monster  :) We have a couple of 2019/2020 2.7's in our farm fleet and the guys all love them.  Zero issues with hauling 1500+ lbs 4-5 days a week .

We have been driving our 2022 Silverado 2.7 Turbo for 400 miles. Mixed city and highway with 17mpg average.

On MPG optimization with this engine (L3B) design, it is tuned to perform like a spark ignited diesel with associated low RPM TQ (1500-3000 RPM) so if you are throttling it like a V6 or V8 it may feel good but you might be wasting the good TQ with low fuel burn capability.

310 HP is plenty to keep the unit in motion but 348 or 420 ft lbs of TQ available at 1500 rpm means you need almost no throttle and let that dual volute turbo do its work.

I am a former HD diesel OEM  R&D engineer and we focused on the optimization of VGT turbos to make lots of tq and hp out of lower displacements with boost and DI fuels injection.

I filled up for second time yesterday using 85 octane CENEX gasolines. 20.74 mpg average.

I let that turbo and Tq to pull me ahead with 1500 RPM range to accelerate. I don't tow but I am in a 2022 Trail Boss Custom 4X4 that operates at very high altitudes, cold ( single digits in AM or nights, rough mountain gravel roads, slick icy, snowy, high wind 2 lane highways), I am in and out of Autotrac, 2WD, 4WD so far in 729 miles.  I changed out the oil for optimum wear-in reasons @ 592 miles to effect better more optimized break in.

The QS full syn dexos1 gen 2 installed is probably lower quality than the OEM fill that I believe was Dexos1 Gen 3. However cleanliness is key for why wear in technique.

On the flat with winds whipping in and out of 10-20 mph mostly cross winds I see :

25 mpg @ 45-50 mph

22 mpg @ 65 mph

21 mpg @70 mph

Think about the turbo being your throttle not fuel flow. Focus on torque unless you just want to waste fuel and go fast or tow fast.

My 2 cents. Not gospel.
