Pig Rich!

When Dyson told me the 2400 ran "Pig Rich" as a cause for part of the fuel dilution issues and in addition tail pipes of a bunch of them concurred I was confused. Running monitored AFR's and LFT/STF readings didn't support that. As it turns out my eyes were not lying and neither was the tailpipe. Dyson's comment was just incomplete. Pig rich it is, but not during warm cycle driving. I learned something from a German Engineer friend recently.

I was unaware that OEMS dump fuel during the cold start to preheat the catalyst system.  Yea, burn fuel in the cat to get it hotter quicker. Cold enrichment well beyond that required for smooth cold starts. This is tied to the water temperature.

For some vehicles this is accessible with programing (HP Tuners) and for others not. For those not there are means to trick the water temperature sensor with some interesting resistor arrangements. Can also be done with religious use of block heaters. Getting water temperature up about 20 C will trim enough fuel to kill bore killing over enrichment without interfering with cold starts. The latter method is even EPA/OEM friendly. :)

Not having a stick option is the only thing that bugs me about the C8. I know it would be slower, blah blah blah…but it just doesn’t seem right for a Corvette.

I imagine that at over 1K hp a stick would be suicide from many drivers today. They can back up without a camera or start a stick on hill or parallel park.

On the other end of the spectrum, my truck also has aggressive cat overtemp protection where it dumps fuel whenever cat temperature reaches an inferred 1701*. Kills power and sends injector duty cycle to the moon. Commanded LAMBDA for WOT at .72. 😳

Happens on stock vehicles, but much more frequently for those that add boost without tuning. They don’t realize that their modification often kills power instead of increasing it.

That DysonAnalysis guy was a genius. Taking oil analysis data and showing what the engine sees. He comes here periodically.

I’ve been all over the spectrum when it comes to high performance cars. With all the nannies, launch control with heavy insulation to keep out noise. I have my most fun with my wife’s Acura Intagra type r. Hardly any sound deadening. Slammed to the ground. Rides like a rock. But it sticks to the road like nobody’s business. It feels fast going slow on the twisties by my house. You get to use all it has noise and all. And the best part you don’t have to go over the speed limit. These super high horsepower cars. You hit the gas and immediately let off your over the speed limit. As we see with automobile racing. Very few people can handle the horsepower these street cars put out without nannies. You’re paying for all that. You’re not going to use it. You can’t.

That damn brand kicked our ass ( GM- Oldsmobile road racing-IMSA-PROSPORTSCAR)  in the late 90's. The R was unbeatable because its handling AND its durability.

Are you talking about that pointy-head, know-it-all guy that comes around? I've heard he can be a real bastard.

When my wife got it in 2001. My brothers and I really laughed at the thing coming from muscle cars. Didn’t really care about road racing. I’ve read lately it’s the best handling front drive. I’m not capable of driving it to its limits. My experience is driving off the rear tires. Handling wasn’t my thing. Horsepower is. Then my wife gets a rear drive sports sedan. That does it all. I appreciate the handling stuff a lot more now. All wheel drive changes the game. Real talent is making front drives go fast through corners, especially using the hand brake too. I’m past my prime to try to learn that.

Information is only useful if you get all of it. :idiot:I got the 'what' was happening. Never go the 'WHY' it was happening. Then got sent down a dozen rabbit holes that had nothing to do with WHY.  Prolonged the issue to failure and never, until today, get the WHY from another source.

Rains coming?

When? Where?

Groomer texts today and says I'd missed an appointment that morning for Rex. I begged forgiveness and told her that I was distracted with loosing a pet the previous day and wasn't quite myself. Actually this exchanged happened while driving and I had the Mrs. text her back with that response.

She offered condolences and said if I got there right away she would fit him in OR she would schedule him in for this Wednesday at 9 A.M. This text I let the car read to us. I ask the wife to text her back asking for the Wednesday appointment.

Wifey says, "What time?"

"9 A.M." I reply.

She asks, " How do you know she has a opening at that time, shouldn't you ask first?"

"Oh I don't know dear...perhaps because she said 9 A.M.?"

"No she didn't. Never mentioned a time" and shot the death stare at me.

Puzzled I ask her to read the text chain back to me.

She does and gets quite. I continue, "Not only did you just hear her when the car read the text, you read it to me just a few minutes ago.....".....I let that trail off into silence. We had just had this argument the night before about our cats medical condition. I heard the doctor say XYZ and she didn't and because she didn't....it didn't happen.

I'm not telling this story to pick on my wife. She got the point right away and I had the text and the voice over to stand as witness.  Everyone does this.

I have the tapes and the emails. I'm not guessing about what I did or didn't hear or read. I'm not getting baited into having a conversation with a person I have ignored so I can be told what I have on tape wasn't said or implied.

End of exchange....

Syphilis and Motor Oil

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3109405/ [Rustam I Aminov ]

Did you just spit your coffee on the screen? :crackup:It's a history on Antibiotics. History that is unadulterated and unpruned.

Our history is littered with examples of uneducated, simple people who make fools of those with a dozen Doctorates. Sometimes by happenstance. Sometimes by keen observation and in intense desire to know a thing completely. Autodidacts.   There are also dozens of cases where in such knowledge is refined by those educated types in ways and with means the commoner hasn't access to and yet, the common man, his stupid little wanderings are the bedrock of knowledge. Accurate to the degree required for ample results even unrefined.

One of my favorites in this paper is the Red Earth of the Jordan River area where simple people rubbed the clay on their skins to cure certain dermal infections. Reminded me of my mother peeing in the dirt (ammonia) to make a paste for bee stings when we were camping to draw the venom as the clay dried. Pulls the stinger too. Damn Arkansas Hillbilly.

One method is of itself not the story, not the process and not superior over another.

The next time you scoff at some beggar rubbing red Jordan clay on his skin while you are taking  actinomycin C3 as a cancer treatment, might want to check that distain at the door and thank that beggar for his contribution. Then laugh at the PhD who acts like he discovered it and is all knowing. Then thank him too after slapping down that kind of arrogance.

What is the tie to motor oil? Even a beggar can figure that out.

    • That is the funnel kit I bought and for being here in Canada I did get a better deal than what other sources were charging through a certain supplier in town that sources more directly and they ordered it for me. There are other items now on the market which would be perfect as well but this has worked well which was the hope when I bought it. I mentioned the Amsoil quart bottles as they have that squarish shape up top and it props nicely on the rim of the opening without falling into the funnel so I can leave them sit and drip a bit. You may have already figured out that to get the cap off the valve cover unless one is 7 + feet tall its not going to be reached without standing on a step of some sort and so when I do that I put the right adapter in and just leave the elbow on the funnel all the time anyway and open the lid and then if using quart containers for sure I can stand beside the truck and leisurely add the oil, and I can leave that funnel on when starting the engine to let it idle to fill the filter and then add the rest of the oil to top it up before removing the funnel and putting the factory cap back on. I put the cap back on the top and slide the bottom cap on as it fits onto the elbow adapter also and then store the funnel in a clean household plastic garbage bag along with the adapter so I have no reason to be washing out the inside of the funnel as I keep it completely clean between uses.    Draining the oil as per the under the truck portion, yes indeed that is slick as someone was thinking on GM's part there and admittedly I don't drop the oil screaming hot in this truck due to the exhaust being there and makes it safer as far as the oil temp if its just warmed up some instead as I don't have the truck on any ramps etc as I do it as the tires sit on the garage floor. The filter is not boiling hot then either and can drop it off into another pail after pulling the drain plug and just leave it drip out. Go back under a few hours later with new filter in hand and clean off the filter base and put the new filter on and install the drain plug. The filter is a little cramped in there as per wrapping ones hand around the filter and I am so used to using the band style filter removal tool that its no big deal and same for snugging it up. My filter wrench is many years old now but I think this is the current version and sounds like the right size, just in case my explanation was not great ( those nylon strap wrenches that one tool fits all filters are not my favorite tool to use, I much prefer this style personally )     57020 Swivel Gripper - No Slip Filter Wrench - Small | Lisle Corporation   And again about the oil draining and filter setup under these GM trucks, I've watched Ford videos of them struggling with oil flying sideways out of the oil pan on the gas 7.3 due to the sideways drain plug onto other components or cross members and guys trying to make shields out of carboard etc and other Ford pickups that Ford insisted they have sideways drain plugs. One win for GM there anyway with this engine.
    • Kind of off topic, wife drives a 2023 Yukon Denali with the 3.0, been a great rig so far, incredible fuel economy for a truck that big and heavy. Coming up on 50000 trouble free miles.
    • I`m gonna try some of this in my 2000 LM7 that has had the famous piston slap since 17,000 miles or so. I have used Mopar combustion chamber cleaner down the spark plug holes a few times in the past. Corrects the problem for a few months or so. Then returns. GM top engine cleaner has been used also. No good results from this.   This LM7 never used oil. Even running the piss out of it.   Course, I`m gonna use this in my 2025 L84 while it`s still clean. It`s got 13,000 miles. Used Chevron fuel system cleaner [2 bottles in tank] a tank or 2 ago.
