I didn't miss it, I just didn't mention it.  Here is the scenario.  You make a modification and your engine or transmission fails. In all likelyhood it was unrelated to your mod but the dealer, or the dealer via the OEM denies the repair under warranty.  Now what?  Well you make dozens of phone calls trying to get it covered under warranty but they still refuse.  Now the only option is to take GM to court and sue them for the repair.  I'm not an attorney but I think they would spare no expense in squashing the claim as it would open up a whole can of worms for them if a precedence was set.

I'm really happy there are some dealers out there willing to venture off of GM's directives from time to time.  I just want to make sure people are proceeding with their eyes open to the potential risks.  I'm willing to assume the risk because I can pay for whatever happens if need be. Hopefully I won't have any issues.

I don’t make dozens of phone I pay no attention to dealer, when he shows me something from GM and there is a problem, I make one phone call to my lawyer. Then the lawyer calls the dealer as my rep. The problem gets fixed. I don’t do ridiculous mods unless I expect to be responsible for the repair. Want a 6” lift you can figure on problems and they can prove it. Some dealers will give hell when you change an exhaust, that I would fight.

About same but I call local gm rep and he just say dealer name and invoice number. I then get a call or email with apologies and a full gm approval. Even had them send me the parts and a check. Escalade loaner and free pickup of my vehicle. Dealer tells me they don't car as long as gm is happy and they are paid any and all work will be done.

You missed one important fact from the Magnussen-Moss act in order to deny a warranty claim they must PROVE the modification caused the failure. Not that most people will ever take it that far. I ran tunes for years and never had an issue on Pontiacs, and I was challenged. I told them prove it caused any problem. I even had a sticker under the hood with the tuners name.

Hate to burst your info, but no they dont.

The MMA protects the end owner if they choose to replace a OEM part with an aftermarket part. IE if you use a K&N drop in filter, or a FRAM air filter instead of the AC Delco filter. It protects you if you use Castrol oil and a Wix oil filter instead of the OE AC Delco stuff. Here is the caveat, the part has to meet or exceed the OE specs for said part.

It also states in the MMA that if a manufacture states you have to use a certain oil/filter/part or else the warranty is null and void, then the manufacture is required to provide those items at no charge to the owner.

Once you get into the ECM/TCM/BCM all rules are off. If you modify those modules GM can and will void the drivetrain warranty if they so choose to, they dont have to prove the changes you made caused the problems. The drivetrain falls under the EPA and GM pays lots of $$$ to certify those calibrations for every configuration. As V.A.G.recently proved, the EPA can and will hold them responsible way after the fact. The manufactures actually went to battle with the EPA years ago to try have the computers listed as something the consumer cant alter or modify, but the case never really went anywhere.

So in closing if you want to tune the truck for a tire size change, you take the risk of losing your powertrain warranty if anything ever comes up. The last I looked in the ECM on the 14-16 trucks, all of the available tire sizes had the same overall circumference so there was no option to change anything in the ECM for OE tire sizes. I highly doubt GM will allow the 19+ trucks the ability for the owner to put a tire size on outside of the OE sizes and then have the dealer change the tire size in the ECM, they never offered it on the 14-18 trucks and I doubt they will for the 19+ trucks either.

For those who have the hypertech in line speedometer calibration  how do you like it?  Where did you order it from?

Im on hupertechs website and they have it priced at $230?

Also so when you put your info in. It has a option. 5.3 V8 Gas (D) or 5.3 V8 Gas (F).  How do I know which one I am lol?

If if I go with the (F) it doesn’t show a calibration available, but if I choose (D) it has one available.

Sorry if if this is confusing

Ok. So my 8th digit is F.  So this won’t work on my truck?

I think your best option here is to call Hypertech and ask someone there in sales or tech help to answer your question as very few people around here have used it.
