Welding a nut into an existing pan, not so hard. Making a deeper, finned sand casted aluminum pan with a drain, that’s  outside of my wheelhouse.

Duke- you knock a few out, I’ll buy one from you.

Gentleman, does anyone have a source for an aftermarket pan for the 8L90 that has a drain plug? Deeper, and finned wouldn’t hurt either. I’m on PML’s mailing list. However, the 8L90 pan remains under development. It’s been that way for years, it seems.
Is this a trick question? Thought you are messing with us so I checked and in 10 seconds it shows many brands and styles available. B&M and moroso to name some.
I run a aluminum moroso 6l80 pan. It is for camaros. But only says that because of the stock truck exhaust in the way. I don't have that exhaust. And as camaros are more popular the pan was $98 on Amazon with bolts, drain, extra deep and 2 sensor ports.

The only one I’ve seen is the B&M. #70396 and it’s $300

the 8L90 is what I’m asking about. Not the 6L80. I’m out of my depth, but I don’t think the pans are interchangeable.

You are right they are not. But there are available pans. Is it the price you don't like or the brand?

Truly, it’s the brand. I was hoping that PML would come through. I do realize that there is nothing really “wrong” with that pan from B&M. But, I have bad memories of their shifters and accessories as junk from the 1980s.

Well, if you're after substance rather than flash, and by substance I mean keep trans fluid temp down and easy to change, weld on a drain plug to the existing pan and put a larger trans cooler up front.  Bigger pan just means it takes a little longer to get to a given temp, and a larger cooler up front is WAY more effective than fins on the pan...

I assumed the drain plug was more important than the fins. An upgraded fluid cooler up by the radiator would do a better job cooling.

Agreed. I would like to have found the pml pan ready to go, as I’m approaching time for a pan drop. It would be convenient to add the new pan at that time. As it is, I have to decide if it’s worth the extra dollars to buy a B&M pan over buying a second OEM pan and adding a drain plug before the drop and filter exchange.

my only problem with the addition of the Mishimoto cooler is that I’ve already installed a “behind the grille” light bar in that place. So, I’ve got to purchase it, then get hardware and material to fab mounts. Disassemble the rad support cover to get the grille. Take it apart and then adjust/fab mounts for one or the other to make it all fit.

*such are the woes of modding.

A couple of guys have modded a remote spin on filter with hard plumbing, onto the second battery tray. I wish there was a kit for that as well. Although, someone was concerned about pressure changes because of the remote filter and possible complications. That may or may not be a real concern.  All I know for sure, is that things are much more complex in these modern machines. Ha.

There is a better cooler. Made by truck cool and there is even brackets a guy sells for that cooker and our trucks but honestly it is just L channel aluminum with the holes predrille. The nice part is the fittings are on the side. Not hard or expensive to just buy fittings and line.
You can also mount your light to the grill itself. Then just a "one" piece reinstall.
Only issue is I don't like the high mount idea with the filter.

I’m searching and have found Tru-Cool. Auto correct got you, I think. I sent them an email.

why don’t you like the “high” mount spin on filter?

Yes auto correct.
It does offer a drain effect. Also seems messy.

PML literally emailed me today and wrote; buy a pan from B&M ours is at least a year away. Nice of them to be straight.

Also, I emailed TruCool and asked which cooler they recommended for my application. I literally described my truck, my needs , my driving habits and my goals. Their Customer Service Head (named Meghan) sent me a copy of their brochure with all 27 different random coolers they make. Zero recommendation for what type, size or model might best suit my needs. Just a picture of every one they make. Thanks for your customer service expertise TruCool. It’s not like you design and manufacture them.
