Hello, I'm new to the forum. I bought a '19 AT4 with 6.2L V8 back in May, now with 2500 miles on it. This past weekend, driving at 65 mpg, felt sudden lurch, then loud squealing from under the hood, then complete loss of power. Unable to start after that. It was towed to closest GMC service center, still waiting to hear back. Has anyone heard  of this kind of thing in such a new vehicle?

Any oil or parts on the ground?  Smoke?  What other mechanical symptoms occurred?

No parts or smoke that I saw. No symptoms prior to this event, it seemed to come out of the blue. All indicators (oil, etc) were normal and Engine Check Light didn’t come in until after I lost all power.

Sounds like you lost your serpentine belt . Probably went into fail safe mode and shut everything down .

When I think of catastrophic failure, I think of a rod hanging out the side of the block.

The GMC shop called Thursday and said they had ordered a brand new engine from the factory to install. I asked specifically what happened with the dead engine, but they didn’t tear it down completely, they did enough analysis to realize it couldn’t be repaired in reasonable fashion.

Yea, because the original one did so well. I’d be more concerned with labor warranty.

OK, the original motor went bad very quickly.  There is literally ZERO reason to expect the next one to also die an early death.  If thousands of these 6.2's were failing every couple of months, then it would be a reasonable request.

I understand the extend warranty due to all of the items that were disconnected and reconnected, a lot more room for later issues.

I wouldn’t call this catastrophic. It’s just a lemon. Lots of them out there. At least you don’t have to fight them for a new motor. I’m sure everything will be fine.

Sorry but,

We drive computers with wheels.

Never had a problem with a computer?

Mechanically, anything can go wrong.

Another thread confirming we do not live in a perfect world.

Depending on how long your truck is out of service GM has a not very well advertised policy to cover your vehicle payment for a month. I think it's something like 23 or 24 days the gm customer service rep told me. Either way I would be asking them for some Goodwill because of the inconvenience and because you are concerned about long term reliability being the first engine didn'take it 3k miles

I had a new engine installed after an oil cooler line failed and the old engine siezed. That was at 6,000 miles. GM extended the warranty (continuing coverage letter, actually) on the entire powertrain. They also sent me a $750 voucher for accessories. The owner of a new truck shouldn't have to go through this and GM should make it right by extending the warranty.
