LTZ and High Country Owners - I’m looking for info on the power up tailgate. Is the motor inside the hinge assembly? Can you look under the truck and see how many connectors are coming out of the tailgate? Wondering what would be involved in adding this, or if it’s a totally different tailgate or just internals.

Following, want to see if it's possible to add to my 2020 Sierra without the pro tailgate.

There is a single wire loom from the tailgate through to the underside of the bumper.  Pretty sure the motor is all inside the gate itself.  The right hand side has a bolt on the shaft.  There is a cutout in the hinge cup.   I don’t think the right side moves at all, it must pivot inside the gate on that side.   If it ever gets warmer I’m going to take the gate off to install a Putco light bar.  I’ll take some pics.

Another guy on here tried it, and even with all the parts installed he couldn’t get it to go up.  There is some BCM tuning required

I tried it.  You need a new torque rod,  right side hinge gate side, right side hinge truck side,  latch motors l and r,  you need actuator motor it mounts on right side of gate, you need new harness and a lift gate module.  I hooked all this up and I got it to come down intermittently but I could not get it to come up.  The last thing I didn't try was switching out dash switch.  I still have all the parts so maybe I will try that someday.  Fiatdale did you get HUD to work?

Any luck with this? I have a 2500 HD Denali and did not get this option but would really like to add it.

Hopefully my 2022 Trail Boss shows up at dealership on time next Wednesday.  Till then I did have a question. I can't look up in manual yet.

If you have a dead battery or other electrical failure, is there a way to still lower the tailgate now that it o longer has a mechanical lever?  Might be a little concerned about putting a tonneau cover on something I potentially won't be able to get into when needed.

The only other way to get in after an electro mechanical failure would be to remove the tailgate cover and pull on the latch release, I’ve done the qt6 tailgate mod previously and I had one problem where I couldn’t open it from any button or key press so I had to hop in the bed of the truck and take off the tailgate panel. If you have a cover that locks from the inside then you’re probably screwed if it fails, but I’ve had it for a while now and I’ve only had that one failure and it wasn’t anything inside the tailgate actually it was the connector under the bed that had somehow come loose.

Thank you for the info. Is this mod possible on a Multiflex Tailgate on a 2500 HD Denali?

The multiflex isn’t available qt6. I think it’s just too heavy for the motor with all the extra hinges and latches. It would be a cool project to diy OEM style and make it work. Start with a used(already programmed) module and a harness and try to put in your own actuator motor maybe a higher torque motor to lift the extra weight. You’ll have to custom fabricate motor mounts and the shaft to body connections. Good luck

So lets talk about how much you would charge to do this for me lol

Thanks for the reply.  Seems like a really big oversight on Chevy's part to not include some sort of manual override option.  I guess it would add to the complexity of the inner motor working on the tailgate, but I guess we'll see how things go.  I plan on going with the Revolver X4s from Bak for cover; so you have to be able to open the tailgate to pull the cord and disengage the rail locks.

I guess the good thing is that the Revolver X4s isn't completely theft proof as videos have shown that a crowbar and enough pressure under the rear edge can pop the lock loose of the track enough to force your way in if I ever have an emergency situation.
