Let’s cut the BS, the 2.7 is a new and great little motor, designed to compete with the 4.3, not the 5.3 and especially not the 6.2.

You don’t buy this if you’re looking to tow more than (reality) 5k#’s cause Towing SUCKS!

Highway passing is not good cause you have to wait till the turbo spools up in order to consider passing and forget it if your towing.

It’s a kick ass motor but it needs room to grow, currently, it’s a grocery, Home Depot 2x4 picker upper but far from replacing the 5.3 which tows twice as much and with much better passing. I’ll stick to my 18 6.2 K2 for now. Let’s wait another 4-5 years, the 4 banger will grow.

A V8 1500 will tow literally twice what that thing will.

Please tell us all again how it's got more power than a V8. Please.

Yes. A V8 1500 will almost tow twice what a 2.7 will. That wasn't my argument.

Please re-read my post's. I never mentioned anything about more power.

No BS on this end. It does have turbo lag and it is absolutely designed for the lighter side of the truck crowd. Just stating that for what it's rated to tow it tows fine. In the video on the Ike test they said it's towing time was right up there with the "big dogs". They were very surprised with it's towing.

Bottom end with the V8’s, not comparable to a V8, rather a V6. Great motor but max towing is 6700#’s, the 5.3 with towing package is 1200#’s. All in all, great little motor, give it a thumbs up for mpgs and being able to move the full size truck minus the 300-400 lb difference in weight difference compared to a 5.3 but not for towing which is what full size trucks are needed for. GM says that 90% full size trucks are used as grocery haulers but I’ve never hauled groceries, just heavy trailers.

Ok, congratulations and good luck, I’m outta here!

Bottom line, its gonna come down to what ur using it for and what ur driving habits are. I'm more than happy with my decision especially coming from a 2010 double cab NNBS 5.3 with 6 speed. Within my ownership, I would be getting 14mpg at best with a 3/5 drop on 20s, exhaust, intake and tune. Like I mentioned before I'm getting 20 mpg with the same driving habits on an island and I probably will never tow anything. Yes a 4 cylinder will never replace a v8 with its power, towing and hauling capability. The 2.7 is basically new to the auto world and may have alot of unknown power capabilities, or it could be GM's downfall. Let's just wait and see.

But WHY?

I watched that truck channel on YouTube make a video with it with a trailer loaded to near max the capability and that thing was a dog.

Now we want increased rolling resistance? Dear god.

This was GM's ploy to give the Silverado moniker a "green" appearance.

I guess the mall parking lot speed limit is only 15 mph. It oughta do that.

It did the Ike Gauntlet in the same time as the 3.5 Ford and the GM 6.2... if you’re gonna be a useless armchair reviewer, at least try to get your facts straight...

I’m a V-8 kind of guy. I will always have one around. The reality is smaller engines are here to stay. A well built boosted engine just takes a tune to vastly increase HP. Then you account for weight reduction of the smaller engine, more balanced handling.

I’d be careful doing to much to it, the 4bangers don’t do well with to much added weight and make sure to compare weight between the tire selections, just 10pounds per tire difference will affect your stopping and acceleration

Unsprung  weight is going to impact any powertrain - and quite frankly the flat torque curve of the 2.7 will  mask it from an acceleration point quite nicely.

This is akin to saying my 2.7 liter truck on 22s would be significantly slower to accelerate and brake worse than a base 2.7 truck on 18s.

Your turbo is gonna be screaming wide open, you'll be sucking down fuel, I'm getting 23 mpg on a V8. No V4, it's disabled. What is a 4 cylinder turbo engine saving you? Turbo bearings go south, bam. Need a new turbo. The V8s have their own issues, but they are manageable and easily mitigated.

Y'all on the other hand are in no man's land.

Why exactly are you posting on this thread? You came in here with no knowledge of the 2.7 and have done nothing but either try to put it down or post useless drivel like this...

How is it already spinning high when in the example I gave its only around 1500 rpm? Are you getting the turbocharger and engine RPM mixed up?

Wait, you’re pulling 7k# trailer with your new 2.7 4 cylinder correct?

Sent from Above

I pull roughly 5k from elevations from sea level to 3300 ft regularly. It pretty much wont come out of 8th gear without standing on the pedal to force it to.

Smaller engine does not always mean lighter. The LS7 V8 was lighter than Nissan VR36DETT V6 in the GTR. I am willing to bet if you pull a 3.5L Ecoboost, turbos and intercooler, you would be in at +/- 25lbs of an LT3. SBC's are some of the smallest and lightest engines available in relation to the power they produce. All the Europeans can do is talk about HP per Litre, which is a useless stat, what really matters in HP per LB.

This thread has def been amusing to read. I'll admit it, I have a 19 RST 2.7 Turbo. Its def different. I had an 11 Sierra 5.3 then a 10 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi so big change for me. I drove the 5.3 Trailboss I wanted then a 4.3 just for laughs. I was doing the paper work and someone mentioned a 2.7 turbo. I laughed and said no way. I decided to test drive it.

The $$$ I saved going the 2.7 route was worth it. I dont tow at all, rarely have the need of anything heavy. Maybe a load of topsoil but only driving 4 miles.

Gas mileage is 18 to 24 depending on how hard I get on it. Coming from my Ram getting 9 to 12.

Turbo lag does suck but I'll deal, my biggest piece of hatred of the truck is that it does not sound like a truck. My wife's Rav4 is louder...ha

I WANTED the 2.7T which was a deciding factor when looking for a truck.  It's literally faster than my dads 2018 Sierra with the 5.3L (ive driven my dads truck close to 1000 miles).  I also have averaged 22MPG over 2500 Miles which is around 70% city 30% highway which isnt bad.  The 2019 and up model year they dropped over 400LBS from the truck.  Also the 2.7L by itself weighs 200lbs less then the 5.3L.  The 2.7L is fine, it gets the 5300LB truck 0-60MPH in 7 seconds flat which was sports car territory in the 90's and unheard of in a truck from even a decade ago.  10 years ago the V8 silverado was putting out the same power as this 2.7 with way worse MPG.  Its fine people jesus lol
