VdellaV Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Hello Everyone A couple of days ago, I was cannonballing home from a trip and I was wondering what the top speed of my 2015 5.3 Silverado was. I have done a coupe fo things to the suspension to make drive better so I can drive fast on open roads, so I wanted to share. I do not encourage Reckless driving, always drive within your skill level. Its fun to do some spirited driving, but be aware of the traffic and road conditions. Always hoon responsibly. 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2WD 5.3 L83, 6 speed 6L80 and 3.08 Gears on P265/70/17 Kuhmo (113T Passenger SUV Tires for 120Mph) Truck Mods: Engine -Speed Engineering Long Tube Headers -AirAid Intake Tube -DiabLew "Custom" Tune loaded via intune 2 -BlowBy Crankcase Evacuation System to exhaust Suspension -Front 2.0 Fox Coilovers set to stock ride height -Rear Bilstein 5100 shocks -Front 3" Lift Spindles -DirtKing Front Alignment Cam kit -Removed 3rd Cargo Spring -1" Rear Lift Block -2" Wheel Spacers on the rear (to compensate for the extra width Front Spindles provide) Extras -GoRhino Bumper -9" Round Ching Chang Chong eBay Led Lights (High Beams) -10" Rigid Industries Radiance Led Bar w/Amber Cover (Fog) -30" Rigid Indusries E-Series Led Bar w/Amber Covers (Fog) I ended up reaching 136MPH on a flat straight and 129 on a slightly uphill. m3n00b Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 I'm all for safe, spirited driving but this was incredibly dangerous and not cool at all.
goeb34 Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Watched a cammed silverado 6.2 smoke a Mercedes at 143 mph in Mehico

Security is a big concern down here in Mexico, I needed to test how the truck behaves at higher speed if I ever need to get out of a situation. Filming it seemed like a good idea since its a rare ocurrence 10 minutes ago, goeb34 said: Watched a cammed silverado 6.2 smoke a Mercedes at 143 mph in Mehico Thats as fast as a big square box will go, regardless of the power
goeb34 Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Thats as fast as a big square box will go, regardless of the power [emoji1787]Very surprised with it being leveled on 33” ridge graps, mine wont be pushed that far tho haha

These new Gen V SB engines are awesome, they dont need much to deliver excellent power and efficiency Traveling at 80 MPH when traffic allows it is more than enough to make good times, and going faster will also ruin your fuel economy
muddkatt Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 I noticed in your list of mods that you did not list a performance drive shaft. Just a heads up that the stock drive shaft has been known to grenade at speeds over 100MPH.If you intend to run at those speeds, I highly recommend you have a custom drive shaft added to your list of mods. If not, please post the pictures of what happens when they come apart.

Do you know if the driveshafts that blow are 1 piece or 2 piece and if made of Steel or Aluminum ?
wforrest08 Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Ummm your disclaimer is wrong. You didn’t film this in Mexico with a potato you filmed it in Guatemala with a patata. You always filmed one country to the South unless of course you’re in Antarctica then of course you filmed in the North Pole.
flyingfool Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 haha, this is in KPH... did you upgrade the driveshaft, they are said to fail above 100mph i would invest in a small 2 seater helicopter , way more fun and safer!

I have read that Aluminum driveshafts fail, but mine is steel. Thanks for the safety concern, im sure that will come to me with age
6_2LTZ Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 From the specs I found on the driveshaft, yours would reach critical speed at 5146rpm. In fourth gear that'd put the engine rpm at 5917 and truck speed of 157mph. In fifth gear it'd reach that speed at an engine rpm of 4374rpm. I doubt the truck has the power to gain another 20mph. I don't think I'd worry about your drive shaft.
