Taz56 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I am glad I can come to this community and ask questions but so pissed off the damn dealership could not tell me. I spoke to them and they said "We will find out for you". They never called me back, and yes I rang them up a second time. Anyways, my 2014 GMC Sierra All-Terrain - 5.3L took E85 Flex Fuel. Any car or truck with a yellow gas cap will take it. My new 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 - 6.2L has no cap and I can't find written anywhere if I can use the E85 Flex Fuel in it or not. Anyone know?
Mountain boy Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 As I understand it neither the 5.3 or 6.2 can run e85. The reason being is ethanol absorbs water if it is in the station storage tank for extended periods especially this time of year. Once it absorbs the water it turns into a white sludge and can clog things up. I am not a scientist this is what I was told.
leafspring Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I know that my 5.3 isn't flex fuel, but I use E30 just as I have in all of my vehicles flex fuel or not.
MX86 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 The current DFM 5.3l and 6.2l are NOT E85 compatible at this timeSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
BlancoSilverado Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I believe they are up to E15 compatible but i know for sure that the L84 is not E85 compatible 1
Black02Silverado Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 The 2019's for the 5.3 and 6.2 are not FF. Makes me mad that they didn't offer it. I still run a 50/50 mix of E85 and Premium in mine. Same goes for my 2002 Silverado. It isn't flex fuel but I do the same, 50/50 mix. Love the way they run with it since it boost the octane up nicely. Not to mention I like the exhaust smell.
jumpinjoe Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 My 2014 1500 is supposedly E85 compatible. Has the bright yellow gas cap and a big yellow sticker under the hood. I've not used anything more than E10 and hope to never have to. We still have a few local stations with non alcohol contaminated gasoline and about every 3rd or 4th tank I'll try to use that. About a dollar more per gallon I think, but it makes me feel better. That alcohol gas is terrible on my o540 airboat engine. The valve seats in these old motors need that old gas with the lead in it to keep the valves lubed. We constantly have to add 'Lead Substitute' even with no alcohol. However, the alcohol gas does make them run a little cooler down here at sea level. That's a plus. Regards, jumpinjoe 1

Regards, jumpinjoe We've decided that the old two stroke in my dad's boat doesn't like ethanol so we put premium in it and it runs much better.

[emoji4]You actually use 50/50 Super/Flex and zero issues? I just started doing it with 5 gallons of E85 per tank of superSent from Above
Taz56 Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 Appreciate all the replies, glad I asked instead of just adding it in LOL..... Shitty they did not set the newer trucks up to run on it. My 2014 Sierra loved the E85 juice I gave her....

Regards, jumpinjoe I ran full tanks of only E85 in my 2014 and she loved it. I did 5 tanks on Premium and 5 tanks on E85 and compared notes. E85 cost less, higher octane, truck ran better BUT it did not get as many KM's out of a tank as the Premium did. In the long run Premium was cheaper to run. But I still ran E85 every 3 or 4 tanks. No mix, just straight.
jumpinjoe Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 Isn't the FF an available option? Somewhere I got the idea it was. Regards, jumpinjoe

I can't remember for sure what he used to run on his remote control boats and air boats but I can ask him.
