Discounted maintenance and extended warranty?

Recommended Posts

I don't want to commit any faux pas by asking, but are there any places that discount the maintenance plans or the extended warranties?  I am considering the maintenance plan but am in the fence with the extended warranty.

The price they quote you for extended warranty is negotiable. I have got hundreds off on my last 2 extended warranties. It is definitely worth the money if you can get a good enough deal on it. Fortunately my last truck had a few things covered under the extended warranty which saved me a lot of money.

Ranch, there are dealerships that will give discounts on the extended warranties. IE would be Ken Fichtner at Denny Menholt Chevy in Billings Montana [[email protected] 1 800 631 5590]. I have purchased 2 warranties from him in the past. There are other dealerships out there that will deal, just search the automotive forums.

Here is my experience about how negotiable the dealer can be. Did all my dickering on purchasing and trading in my old truck. Reached a deal on price. Then asked the salesman about extended warranty. He quoted $3400 for a 8 yr 100,000 mi. I basically told him no way and he went to the manager (whatever) and came back with a price of $2400.  Told him Iwould think about it. Went to my credit union to get funds and had them quote me their price. Same coverage, same years and miles $1500! They said Icould let them know anytime I wanted about taking it out. Went back to dealer to sign paperwork and the paperwork guy brought up the warranty for $2400 and I told him no I was going with the credit unions. He asked how much I was paying and I told him $1500. He looked me in the eye and offered me the warranty for $1300.  So yes they basically came down $2100 over the initial offer.

Just make sure the warranty covers all electronics!!! Mine does.

yes....when I signed my papers finance guy tried to sell me one, I said nah I am good....few minutes later he brought it up again for less (I forget how much) anyways over the course of our meeting he did it 4 times each being lower...saying he found another rebate each time.....I looked at him and said how come you didn't just offer it the first time for fourth time price?...the fact he pushed so hard to sell me one told me its a big deal for them meaning it makes them a lot of money....

if I keep mine past factory warranty ill shop around for one

Don't discount how 3rd party, non-GM warranties can have issues getting things covered.  I think you pay and then get reimbursed later.  From GM warranties I do not believe have that issue.

I just got a quote from them. Doesn’t seem too impressive IMO. Still too high.

6yr/100k miles, $100 deductible platinum is $1850.

The warranties start when you buy them.  And since you don't have to buy them at the time of buying your vehicle, you have the potential to shop around and extend the warranty a bit longer.

I've heard their is value in locking in the coverage you want within the first year, or less than 16K miles.  Otherwise, you may not qualify for new car pricing.   I've heard others say you should lock it in before the end of the 3 yr/36K warranty.

I typically wait until the end of the first year, with less than 16K miles.  That way, when you buy the warranty, you essentially get a free year and additional miles.

However, when I did this for my current 2019 truck, they didn't seem to offer a plan which would provide coverage over a total of 100K miles.  I wonder if GM is limiting their exposure on the new platform??

I too just received a quote from them.

He stated "We have been doing this for many years and I will at least match if not beat anyone’s price for this plan."

But, the prices are a bit more than what I was expecting.  Looking at 7 years 75000 miles. $1844, Platinum, 0 deduct.

Guess I will keep looking...

https://www.gmoutlet.com/gmepp.html   Best price I could find for a real GM warranty.
Ask for Allen

I got mine from them.  8yrs or 80,000 miles for $1,400 with a $100 per visit.  About the best I could find and since I will be under 10k miles a year it works out better for me with the 8yrs.

It is my understanding to get the best price you need to get one  while you are still under a year of ownership and 12k miles.

With all the electronics on this vehicle and now the brake issues I figured it can't hurt to get the coverage, especially since I plan on keeping this truck for a long time like my 2002.
