10’s of thousands of k2xx 6l80’s probably had bad thermostats as well. I had one.
I would have never known my thermostat was non functioning had I not been a forum member and known that it’s supposed to open at 190 and level off. Also technicians would never know either because how often do they drive them enough to reach 190 and even notice when they get there.
Sure, the article mentions GM is trading some volume for margin, i.e. sell fewer but make more. It just doesn't seem to add up that inventory at some of the biggest dealers around here for a popular rig like the Silverado 1500 would literally shrink in half. Maybe that's the only way they can sustain the margin, and they're just turning existing inventory more quickly.
I also wonder if borrowing cost has something to do with it. Dealers have to borrow to floor the vehicles and pay interest. I wonder if that has limited what they can ultimately keep on the ground at the dealership.
Thanks for the follow-up posts. I'm about to buy a second hand Smart Cap and have 78" Yakima HD bars in the garage. Did you need to buy anything besides the bars to mount them to the cap?
