First oil change coming up way before the computer says to. Just thought I would get thirty different opinions on what's the best oil on the market.

( I have owned diesel trucks for the past 28 years)

2020 SLT 3500 CC. DRW.

Really? Conventional. People may not agree on what synthetic to use. The general consensus would be at least a blend.

You will probably get more than 30 opinions.  This kind of thread brings out the worst in people.  For what its worth, I use Shell Rotella T6 in my truck, tractor and motorcycle.

Wouldn't even consider conventional oil.

I ran Rotella T4 in my 2014 and used it on the first oil change of my 2020.  Just bought T6 for the 9K mile oil change - I'm sure T4 would have been fine, just seemed like I should use T6 in this expensive of a truck going forward!

Yes, you will get a plethora of choices.  For what is available on the shelf at the part stores, you can't go wrong, especially if you are changing it every 5k.  Going synthetic in a diesel to keep things cool and clean is a better option in my opinion.

If you want a quote on a 2.5 gallon jug of AMSOIL's diesel oil, pm me your address and I can get you a quote. :)

Amsoil member/ preferred customer diesel oil about $85 for a 2.5 gal. jug.

Owners manual is your friend, with a very expensive truck if it was me I would stick with a Dexos spec diesel oil to avoid any future warranty hassles.

No No No!!!

Not in a 6.6L

Dexos is NOT the spec for the 6.6L Duramax!!

2020 Duramax 6.6L supplement calls for 15W40  CJ-4 or CK-4   Manual suggests 5W-40 for long periods of operation belwo 0*F

There are many sources of 15W-40 CJ-4 or CK-4, as that is probably the most common engine oil spec in the diesel world.

FWIW,

2020 Duramax 3.0L supplement calls for   0W-20   meeting the Dexos D specification.

DexosD approved oils here:https://www.gmdexos.com/brands/dexosd/index.html

(currently there are only 2 on the approved list)

My latest Blackstone Labs report.  This is 2nd run of new ACDelco oil, the other two samples are plain old Mobil One.
