Not sure if this the right section, but I’m curious if anyone has been dealing with backordered parts from GM. I have a 2019 Silverado 1500 that I bought new in November.  I was on my way to work one morning and a lady ran a red light and hit the front end of my truck.  This was in February, on the 5th.  I had the truck towed back to the dealer I bought it from thinking since they were a certified GM collision center they would be able to get it done in a timely manor.  Well today is now April and they still haven’t been able to get the part needed to fix it.  They have no idea when or if the part will be available, the soonest they think is sometime in May now.  The part that bothers me the most is I went there yesterday to get a different loaner vehicle and the truck is sitting outside without a front clip and the hood opened exposed to the weather and such.  I didn’t think much of it, so today I went back to grab some thing out of the truck I forgot and to check the hood situation.  The truck was still in the same condition as yesterday.  Now we’ve had several rain storms this week and only one could guess how long they have left it like this.  I will attach pictures. Has anyone dealt with this type of situation? I know there’s a lot going on, but this all

started way before the Covid pandemic, and I’m still paying a good chunk of change for a truck I can’t drive, and can’t move any of my trailers now.

The company I work for works for GM part manufacturers and all of them (In my area) are currently shut down or retooled and making parts for ventilators etc for this pandemic. Hate to say it but unless theres something made already with your name on it I wouldnt hold my breath any time soon ...

Here's my .02....which I have done in the past when vehicles were damaged........works easy when vehicle was an owned cash buy; no sure if not paid off.....take it for what it is worth.

Wrecked vehicle at dealer's body shop. Walk into showroom and talk to manager, not salesman, and explain that you have a vehicle awaiting repair in his dealership shop and want to trade against a new vehicle in inventory. You want KBB trade in excellent condition (which it will be in after repair), and offer the insurance check for his body shop's estimate and the balance in cash or refinance for the new vehicle. If accident was deemed other driver's fault you'll get a check later for the deductible to which the dealer is not privy.

Dealer will be happy because the price of the check exceeds his repair costs and he gets not only another new car sale out of it, but his used car lot gets a "creampuff" trade with extremely low mileage that will sell for same price as a "demonstrator".......... along with a story that owner traded in because he lost his job, it was too difficult entry for his disabled wife or some other kock and bull story.

Might have to eat a few bucks, but better than getting Humpty Dumpty back in a few months if you're lucky.......plus you have a new, undamaged vehicle that you can use immediately. Current vehicle, just sitting there with the hood way open is an invitation to act as a donor vehicle for back ordered parts to repair a "preferred" customer's vehicle (but of course that could never happen).

Thank you for the information, ill keep that in my back pocket for now.  I have a case open with GM customer support or whatever it is.  I plan on calling her tomorrow and seeing what they say, she was upset when i told the situation and my case has been "elevated".  I dont want this truck back honestly.  My dad worked for a Cadillac/Izuzu dealer here several years ago, and he said the same thing.  Hes been told numerous times to go to a car on the lot and grab a certain part off it to make the preferred customer happy and on their way, so he can see them taking stuff off my truck to appease another customer.   I was panning on getting my wife a Tahoe from this dealer but after this i dont think ill ever go back to this dealer for anything.

I could maybe see them taking parts off a new vehicle that hasn't been sold yet, though even that sounds a bit sketchy to me, but taking parts off the truck that you bought and then brought in for repairs to take care of another customer?! No way. If true, that would amount to theft in my mind.

I've had a few parts for a center console on order for 5 weeks now. They claim that they are not on BO,just that GM is shipping extremely slow.

I'm in similar situation. Any progress yet? I need almost every panel replaced and am very concerned that I'll be stuck waiting. I know they ordered bed and rear frame. Maybe only parts available? Dealer says GM is not shut down which I don't believe is true? Maybe he just means parts dept? Trying to get repair est and salvage money so I don't have to deal with it.

I had a steering column replaced on my truck when it had less than 10 (ten) miles on it. The telescoping feature locked up. Anyway, part was on backorder, but they were able to swap parts from another sister truck....... which is still parked with the steering column missing from it a month later....

Travel trailer and 5th wheel owners beware!

The newly designed GM Heavy duty truck isn't worth buying since they never thought they needed to make replacement parts available for them.

I bought a new 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD SLT Crew cab, 4x4 with 6.6 Duramax in March of 2020. Little did I know when I bought it . The new body design meant they had apparently made no plans of making any more body parts than they needed to build them.

I had one of the rear tires blowout (right rear) which absolutely destroying the right rear fender inner and outer assemblies. We were blessed that we had postponed leaving on a 4000 mile trip towing our travel trailer a week earlier. I can only imagine what may have happened if we had doing been doing what we bought the truck for when it happened.  Suddenly at the posted speed on I-10 east of Phoenix , the truck develop a vibration that then immediately became blow out.  The highway was clear , no objects on the road, just smooth concrete pavement . The TPMS system had no low air warnings and the truck had just been it for an oil change and safety check over 500 miles before this happened.

I called Onstar and they came and Installed the Michelin brand spare and I took it to the dealer for a damage estimate . In their infinite wisdom, GM radically changed the inner and outer rear fender assemblies for 2020 and newer to be unique to GMC models only. Chevrolet models are unique to them as well , so they make less parts available in the first place for whichever brand they sell less of.  Now add the covid factor and not only are the parts on backorder but they can't even provide a projected date of arrival.

After hearing that wonderful news , I started researching the parts supply issue. From the sounds of it , they don't even project even catching up till first or second quarter of 2022. At least our truck is driveable, with a" custom by steel belt  shrapnel" right rear fender, but I am one of the lucky ones I guess.  Some poor owners are stuck with their vehicles stored at dealers completely undriveable, sitting out in the elements until front fenders and hoods and bumpers show up possibly by next year .

Important lesson learned GM parts supply system has become the victim of just in time inventory as needed by the production line only now. Talk about planned obsolescence  to ensure new sales. Especially when the put POS tires on during assembly on the line now too. A strategy that if if becomes true

My vehicle will be less of a vehicle than I paid for a protracted period of time through next year . My previous GMC 2016 3500 HD base model crewcab came with better quality stock tires and served us well for 31,000 miles us well.

If I end up waiting till next year for the parts the dealer has ordered to repair the body damage, they will have lost a long term customer. I doubt they will even care how many customers they are losing because of their poor management decisions They become a company that can't even support the vehicles they have produced with any reliable sources of parts.

Not holding my breath.

First, unique vehicles seems to be what most people want.  My '04 Sierra used almost the same fenders, doors, and hood for the 7 years of the GMT800s (they made slight changes over the years, you could use a newer part on an older vehicle, but not necessarily an older part on a newer vehicle).    Now, it's slightly different body lines, lights, fenders every year, and also different bodies between 1500's and 2500/3500's.  Ford's been doing the last bit for longer, GM started doing it relatively recently (different 1500 & 2500/3500 bodies).

Second, the whole supply chain is screwed up, and slowly getting better.  You can make a "I'm not buying another GM" type decision because of it, but it wouldn't surprise me if specific replacement parts aren't available all the brands.

I have 23’ Silverado 5.3l v8 took it to the dealer after a “service transmission”  message popped up and then the check engine. It went in and came out with additional issues. My center console shifter is no longer indicating the gear selection and my onstar control module is no longer working they said the onstar control module is connected to the shifter and it’s back ordered. Drop it off on 1/20/25… paid out of Pocket for a rental called them for an update they kept pushing I’ll get back to you, let me reach out to the shop foreman etc. got a call on 1/27/25 if you need your truck you can pick it up it’s drivable but the onstar control module is still is in back ordered. And it’s linked to you shifter smh very disappointed in Chevy.. service has been horrible not happy with one bit I’m retiring the the Chevy bow tie
