I got my 2020 2500HD for 42k out the door without a trade.  I only get the WT package as I'm going to personalize myself so I don't need all the crap that comes along with the 70k+ models.  It is a truck after all, if I want comfort I'd drive the car.  I only require AC and a radio.  I did get the Alaskan pkg and some really good accessories and extra's in that price.  Of course I had them remove that gawdy looking bear sticker on the back.  It really was a great deal.

So I've always wandered how everyone can afford these new trucks. With costs upwards of $80k on certain models how does everyone afford them? I'm not asking what you do for a living or how much money you make but it just blows my mind how many people out there purchase these new trucks and it seems like it's no big deal especially all the add ons after buying one. I'm in the market for a new 2500 but man the cost just is insane. I feel I have a decent paying job. I have Bills like most but it seems the payments are $800 or more a month which is nuts!!! So how do you all do it??? Just curious

It appears I can't lol. Priced one out yesterday and the trade in on my 2017 is cost prohibitive. Looking at a 17k shortfall...

Fyi.... i am 45 as well. So i bought my 12 when I was 37... if I was in my 20s it wouldn't happen. Also it helps now I got my credit issues resolved and sitting in the low 81x or so. Also I married someone who makes 3-4 times what I make and no kids... but lots of nice tools and welders....

I trade in every 3 yrs when Bumper to Bumper runs out and I always have a top of the line truck in A1 condition so I get a good trade in price.  In that 3 yrs I save up to 25-30K for the new vehicle.  Its the only vice I have, no mortgage or any other obligations, own my home.   Living off 2 pensions and a small business which helps defer the cost of the vehicle.  How?  I saved my money when I was young.  I had a job as a Surveyor and traveled all the time with travel expenses (Per Diem) and provided a Suburban work vehicle so I never had to dip into the paycheck. A lot of guys could not do it, that is live out of motels and restaurants and many never lasted 6 months. We worked 4 day weeks so was home Thursday to Monday morning and traveled on the clock. We did work some long days, 12-15 hrs when on GPS projects, not unusual for me to log 200 miles a day on the job do RTK surveys for aerial mapping.   Retired in 2002 early out after 30 yrs .

My last truck was an 02 I bought new and got a decent trade in for it with a paid off car.   Ive saved ever since and just recently bought a 2020 HD.   So it took me 18 years?

There will be a "crash" soon with these trucks. Many buying diesels are young guys who cant afford it.

Just gave the dealer the thumbs up today to order a 2020 2500 SLT White, with all the options. One thing I didnt know, is they give you the supplier pricing. Which the build price is just under $77k but the supplier price is $72K so thats a good thing, plus then I guess you get whatever the rebates are at that time too. They say normal is 6-8 weeks but think it may be 10-12 weeks. Any thoughts on that build time?
