Just picked up '21 2500HD AT4 6.6 Gas with AT4 premium plus. I was surprised payload was ~2600 pounds. I was expecting in the 3's. Any idea why? The truck has the camper/plow package with the heavier front axle...does that play into lower payload?

That doesn't make any sense to me in a gas engine truck. Every 2020+ 2500 gas I've seen has been 3k+ payload. Post your stickers?

My thoughts exactly. I thought it was a typo meaning 3600 lbs but both stickers show the 2600... Looks like the curb weight of the truck is high. I wonder if it's due to the camper package? What do others curb weight look like?

That sticker shows GVWR derated to 10000.

This is it. Some option derated the gvwr. I want to say mine is 10650. I have a 2021 Silverado 2500HD High Country Gas CC SB.

Ah yes, I just "built" and AT4 and there are 3 options 10,000, 10,650 and 11,350. Obviously I have the 10k option. Who would have thunk there is a GVWR option.... The other AT4 I was looking at had the 10,650 GVWR too bad... I think with that additional weight I would have had to register it as commercial vehicle.

Great info, thank you! I also read in a separate thread that the difference between the 10k and 10,650 was the sticker, that there are no mechanical differences etc. If that is true then my payload should be around unofficially 3347 lbs.

That is true. The only physical difference is the sticker, the truck is the same.

I believe the 'no mechanical differences' is correct.

For legal issues the sticker is still the limit. (which probably matters more for commercial uses than for recreational use)

It's an 'elective' limit that has to do with licensing/insurance in some areas - including annual inspection requirements.

I believe you're correct. Here in Massachusetts, I think anything over 10k requires a commercial plate even for individual use. Commercial plate requires annual renewal of the registration and it's more $$....
