fsuboy75 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 (edited) *EDIT* I just found a thread on this and got my answers. I drive a 20 1500 RST and I tried to keep it running with the heat on while not in it. I've found that if you start your engine from the switch (not talking about remote start) it will only idle 30 minutes at then shuts off. This has happened twice now. I have not parked it at my department or accident scene yet running for more than the 30 minutes to know if it will shut down after driving it after a start. I think I've been sitting stationary in it for around that time, but really can't recall. I'm wondering if you shift to drive then park its different and will stay idle? 1. Is there a sensor in the seat telling the truck if there is someone in it to keep it idling for more than thirty? 2. Is there a way to disable this feature so that I can keep it idling with the heat on. Edited December 21, 2020 by fsuboy75
Jefez71 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 It'll turn off regardless. I used to work at a Chevrolet dealership and sometimes we would leave the trucks running to play music on during events and they would turn off after 30 minutes of idling. There's no way to disable it unless you get a custom map for the computer. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
fsuboy75 Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 Yeah no need for replies here. I just finally found the 12 page thread on here all about it. Pretty pissed off right now.
Z45 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Lots of municipalities have enacted green laws to curb vehicle idling and that's why this exists.
Salsa De Piña Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 These guys complained and argued about it for 12 pages: I'm not sure if anyone reported back about putting on the parking brake and leaving it in neutral. Best of luck.
mookdoc6 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Can't be for the 2500's I would assume? More stupid liberalism...……………………………...
ericarenee Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I seen something about being able to hold the break and gas paddle on the floor as you start it , Might turn this feature off. I think is was on a thread about the dealer procedure to run the trucks so many hours sitting still non stop to check for the Valve spring issue.
BurnsMax Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Neutral and parking brake will let it keep running. Just take the FOB and lock the doors

Yeah, I don't think I wanna be the guinea pig for that one.
Pavewally Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 I have a Chevy Silverado 2020 3500. I'm moving to Alaska and need to figure out how to bypass or remove this option. I will need to run my truck in idle for longs periods of time in the winter. Plugging it in will only help so much, it will need to run for at least an hour or more without my interaction.
