Same. 16k miles. Hear squeak in A.M. while pulling out of garage. Thinking the cause is brake dust build-up/dirt/road grime. I haven't cleaned my wheels thoroughly in a while since it's been snowy/rainy for weeks...

40K on mine, and they have made noise since day one, always when they are cold.  I have always just assumed it was because of the full metallic pads.  Any vehical that I have owned with full metallic pads (factory or aftermarket) made some noise from time to time, the trade off is they typically last longer

Yeah, this has been discussed / reported here in another thread. I’ve had the same issue on my 2019 RST for about a year.

The dealer has never been able to replicate it. LOL. Of course.

I invited them to my driveway at 7:45am any day of the week to observe and take notes. ?

LOL. Of course not. Mine has 12k on it now at dealership for steering wheel column replacement, some rattles and of course rear brake squeak. They are aware of the issue but they told me the brakes are on back order????. We shall see what they say when I get the truck back. It’s very annoying backing out of driveway in a $67k vehicle with squeaky brakes, when neighbor across the street has a 2014 Sierra with 80k miles on it, and his factory brakes don’t squeak!!???

Got truck back today from dealership. Fixed all the rattles, new steering column put in, and replaced rear brakes per TSB. No squeaks at all now.

Do you happen to have the TSB number?

I don’t but I will look at service report papers at home on table.  I just mentioned it to service manager and he said ok I’ll look it up.  Very nice and knowledgeable guy

Heard something about a lower copper content in newer more epa friendly pads. Could be a factor.

that's interesting. My wife's old explorer had a squirrel make a nest in the engine bay (yes daily driver). Thing chewed through the rear washer hose line (thank god could have been worse). Read that a lot of the rubbers are now made with bio/eco friendly oils that attract things that like nuts and berries. We win and and lose it seems.

yeah not to pick nits, but I think that's the point. The sticker on my rst z71 was in the high 50's I think and it's crazy to have it sound like a 90's accord with 200k on it. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck (minus the sunglass holder removal ?) but it's a sign of "cheapness" or "neglect" and that just bugs me.

Did he happen to have a horn coming out of the middle of his head, and pixy dust floating around him? #unicorn

Nope, there are actually nice guys who work at stealerships. That’s why I drove over 70 miles to take it to them, instead of my hometown stealer ship who claims they haven’t heard of any rear window leaks or rear brake squeaks. Unreal!

So, it's the brakes that squeak when backing up first thing in the morning?

I thought it was coming from me. I am getting old.

On my 2020 AT4 2500 HD I had squeaking brakes early on. I took my truck to my GMC dealer and they said this was a very common issue on the new 2500HD brake pads. They did replace my pads under warranty when my truck was at 23k miles. I’m now at 32k miles and my replacement brake pads are squeaking again. I made sure to remove the brake dust but they still squeak. It’s frustrating having my brakes squeak so much when I’m coming to a stop at a stop light. Hopefully they can find a solution to this in the future.

I had my wife record me backing up in the morning to get the squeaking on video for when I decide to take it in.......

Tried it two days in a row..........never squeaked once!  Damn.....

Guess that's the cure......just hook up a cam to record it and it will never happen. ?

I'm beginning to think it's a little bit of rust forming either on the metallic pads or rotor that causes the initial squeaking, then once burnished off the squeak is gone.

Humidity, duration of sitting, and temp may play a part in this.......not quite as concerned about the issue now.
