The best vehicle you ever owned.

A light topic for the holidays. In my case it would be a 1994 Z-28. My wife’s 2011 Genesis may best it if it goes trouble free for a few more years. The reason for my choice is. We recently had purchased a Impala SS and realized it was possible going to be a collector. She (the wife) wanted a used car for a daily driver. Making the impala nice day only driver. She was leaning toward a smaller mustang. Walking around a mustang specialty use car lot I spotted the Camaro. The owner say you don’t want that it’s has a builder title. Sitting there with bald tires paint job could be better at a very pleasing priced low mileage one year old formerly totaled Z-28. Together we said after the test drive we’ll take it. My wife put 60K miles on it. My son (first car) put about the same. For several years it was my toy-extra car. It was like a pet, once an a lifetime deal. About a decade later my mechanics son bought it for half of what I paid for it. I instantly regretted it. He ended up wrecking it. So this isn’t about buy a high dollar brand thing. It’s the best all round bang-joy for the money thing.[emoji846]

Best or favorite?  Not gonna do best because it would be another source of online arguments....

 

But my favorite well, that would be based on the most fun to drive or had fun in.  My first car was a 69 Dart with a 318 and some stuff done and it ran pretty good relatively speaking for the mid '80s, had a lot of fun in that.  My 94 Caprice, loaded with leather, light blue with an LT1, 3.73 gears, headers, cat deleted,  intake, 1.6 rockers...ran real good for the mid late 90's, a real sleeper.  Then my 07 TBSS, with just my homemade intake, and tune, ud pulley, t-stat ran 13.08, not as much of a sleeper, but it surprised a lot of people.  All I had alot of fun in.

For sheer longevity...my 1990 Accord. 301,000 miles, and everything, even the clutch, was original! If Honda made a full size pickup I wouldn’t be here.
 

 

For a car I actually loved to drive, I’ll throw another LT1 out there, 1996 Camaro SLP SS. Have spent the last 5 years trying to track it down to buy it back. They were numbered cars but unfortunately the trail has gone cold. May buy a similar one just to have before the prices skyrocket. LS1 is definitely the better motor but there’s a omething about the look of these, vs the 1998-02s.

Agreed on the 93-97 vs 98-02 Camaros.  The 93-07 had a neat mean look, the 98-02s kinda looked "blind" with those headlights.  Think the same about the Firebirds and 98-02s looked really bad.

Hands down best and favorite of mine is the 71 Chevelle SS that I still own. Ordered it new when I was still in college, insurance was a bit of an issue at that time so I had the choice of getting a BB and automatic, or a SB and 4-speed. I really wanted a 4-speed so I went with the L48 350 and the 4-speed, it has a 3.31 12 bolt, the 3.31 is a bit of a comprise gear ratio but it worked ok for me.  Only thing different I would have done is gone with a bench seat instead of buckets and a console, found out that crawling in the backseat on moonlit nights was a bit of a pain, but still worth it.   211,000 miles on it, never had the heads or pan off. It's sat for awhile now, I have a new master cylinder for it and it needs a new radiator, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

The one I enjoyed the most overall was a 2006 3/4ton Silverado Duramax. But most enjoyable to drive and best creature comfort is the 2017 Tahoe that I have right now. Close second is my 2017 High Country. The Corvettes I had were fun to own but impractical as hell. Especially in a cold climate.

1996  90 something s10 Blazer 4x4.. I know we flipped the 100k Mile counter over 4 times. It just went on and on.. only issue it ever had was 5th gear torn out of it  like 4 times. But was a easy fix.

Really surprised no one has come in and say their 2019/2020 is the best vehicle they have ever owned. You hear that often, 15k miles and that is the best ever? Not even going to give it until out of warranty to see if anything has happened to it? I think they are confusing favorite or newest with the most features. Reliability should play a huge part when you say the best ever. I haven't had the decades of experience owning multiple though all of ours/mine has gone around 150k trouble free over the years with maintenance.

 

Best ever family vehicle would be our '91 Astro van. It pulled a boat at it's weight limit all around the great lakes, was dead reliable and went to nearly 250k before we sold it running fine. Did everything we asked with the family and friends including some it wasn't designed for. I have only bought two new vehicles (06 GTO and 14 Silverado) and both have been fantastic and reliable thus far (truck has 80k on it and has been in some extreme situations off road and hauling and the GTO has 58k). Everything else has been used and either bought from family or other outside parties.

I didn’t think to count my wife’s Acura intagra Type R. It was only driven daily for a year. Only 3500 were made. It’s like new I drive it once a month. I consider as an investment. So it’s a different category.

1986 Monte Carlo...I got it with about 75000 miles on it and proceeded to put over 225000 more miles on it.  I sold it to my cousin and he drove it for several years before passing it down to his younger brother.  When he finally stopped driving it, it had over 425000 miles and the only major work done to was when I had to have the transmission rebuilt.

 

I bought my wife an 05 Tahoe in April 2005.  It now has right at 310000 miles and still going strong.  I've had to replace the water pump 2x and that's it.  I'm driving it several days a week now back and forth to work

the one i miss the most was a '79 trans am WS6 and olds 403... what a time to drive... wish i had that one back!! the bottom of the pile was a tie between a VW diesel and a 2.7 ecopoop. and i have to say my Sierra 2018 with the L83 is really a pleasure to drive and use... i can't find any faults in gas mileage, reliability or comfort.. only how many buckeroos it was.. it is at the top of list.
