Does anyone know if the 2022 models will be 10 speed for the gas?

Only GM knows as of today.
They should say if they are by May or June. If they said anything now everyone would wait and cut into 2021 sales. That's my theory. I stayed at holiday inn last night

The 6L90 is a great transmission but let’s be honest, if trucks hauling identical weight with close to similar power #’s can be 4 minutes apart, clearly more gears is an advantage. Someone mentioned an 8 speed, that would be great to so long as it’s not based of the 1/2 ton trans.

Let's admit it , Mr Truck didn't give the Chevy a chance. He just let it sit there and not downshift.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I take TFL Truck with a grain of salt.

True, but to be fair they drove all of the trucks in a similar fashion. I do take TFL with a grain of salt as well. I find hauling in manual mode is much better.

How's it do on grades or into a nice headwind? Does it need to rev in 4th gear to keep up to speed ?
I know the 6.6 gas will rev just like a 5.3. All day every day.

I live in Indiana so not too many big grades here but towing into a decent head wind I have not had any problems maintaining speed with it staying in 5th

Damn the transmission, I wouldn’t consider one until the fix the back windows! ?

I can't believe they can't figure out how to make a window not leak yet.

They drive them as similar to take any variables out of the driving style.  Just like how they don't use manual mode.  That's why they use Drive and Tow/Haul because the OEMs, if they've done their jobs correctly, should have their tow/haul function work to deliver the proper gear at the proper time/speed/rpms.

If GM did their job correctly on these trucks (kept the 4.10 with the 6L90 or went to the 10 speed with 3.73) the TFL results would have been much better.  GM dropped the ball, plain and simple.

Enough so that I'm likely going to have a Ford in a few months. Been a GM guy most of my life (had a Jeep CJ in there somewhere), but between the 10 spd, a choice of axle ratios and a proper locker, the Ford F-350 looks appealing.

I think both will be good trucks, but I'd feel like I was settling to stick with GM at this point.

Imo, this gasser is absolutely outstanding!

Never seen before power, with an upgraded already super reliable 6 speed tranny......yeah, these new gassers are awesome.

very much agree also, along with the whole upgraded truck over past generations, but my 04 with the 8.1/Allison was also a great combination just a little rougher at the pump.

I wouldn’t even care about the worse fuel mileage.....if they’d make a modern 8.1 and Allison I’d buy.
