Dealer vs Owner oil changes

After reading some of the post, thought I would share.  Most of the time I do my own maintenance on my cars and bikes.  There have been times that I have used some of the local quick oil change places.  I had a Nissan Altima that only went to the local quick oil change place because it was getting the oil changed monthly due to the amount of miles I was putting on the car.  Now I go to the local Auto Hobby Shop on base.  They have a lift and I do not have to worry about disposing of the waste oil.  The bay rental is only 6.00 which to me is a small price to pay not to have to crawl under the truck.  I like being able to get a good look at the bottom of the truck to see if there are any other issues.

Just got done servicing the wife's 2015 Yukon. It was due for an oil change during harvest and wanted the battery changed before winter. Sent her to our dealer.

 

I will be stopping by and talking to the service manager in the am. Going to find out who was the tech and put a notation in our account to NOT have him touch our vehicles. 

 

Bottom screw was missing on the airbox, dusting the engine. Fender support bracket left loose. Need to remove, to lift airbox lid. Cable that supplies spring-loaded tension for the glove box from dropping fast was pulled out of the crimp. Need to easily unhook to drop glove box to gain access to cabin air filter.

The three dealership I use have windows so you can watch. Two of the dealers I use I’ve bought multiple vehicles. It’s called establishing a relationship. If you do not want tire rotation it’s drive on. My rotations are free at discount tire. Even on new cars I didn’t buy tires from yet. Why? I have a relationship with them. They know I will eventually. One time in 40 years I suspected the wrong oil was used. I went back they did it again showing me the can, no charge. I buy my gas at the same two stations. Just in case. Same with car washes. Establishing relationships with people who deal with your vehicles is no difference than your house. Same plumber, exterminator, carpenter etc. I would work on my toys for fun. Wash them too. Saving a couple dollars doing my own oil change, naaa. No fun in that.

While true to the GM warranty not so to the lifetime powertrain warranties. Those are a contract that must be followed. Mine is I can get maintenance done at any GM dealer. Dealer where I bought the truck must service and inspect once a year. Any powertrain repairs must be done where I purchased unless it's I am out of state and contact the dealership before anything is done.

All of which is very unfriendly to active duty military due to their frequency of moves. How do you get a car inspected annually when you're in Japan and the car is sitting in a storage lot in the US?

I am at the dealer for an infotainment update to U150. Saw the sign for 8qt AC Delco at 69.95 plus tax. The person quoted me for Mobil One which an 8qt change is listed at 109.95. So they are nkt as over priced as I thought lol. Still doing my own oil changes lol.

Private garage quoted 120 for AC delco and 160 for Mobil one or one of the other name brands, tire rotation is an extra charge for them which is where 180 came in.

I buy a case (12 quarts) of AMSOIL SS for $120 shipped. $10 including tax for a Purolator One and $17 at my local shop to change and dispose of the waste. Private shop that does 99% of my work. Means I do an oil change for the top most self for my 4.3 (6 quarts) at a cost of.................

Tire rotation is FREE as I bought them from him.

 

He has never made a mistake in 15 years...

Why on earth would I use a dealership?

Everything is top drawer and top notch.

If you own and want it done right, do it yourself.

How low can we go?

Just bought six boxes of Costco Kirkland 5W30 at $21 for a box of 2 five quart jugs for the Mrs. Terrain. 

Including the $17 shop change and dispose fee and free rotation

i wonder if there is any connection to the quality and low nutrient density of our modern foods, i swear these farmers have no idea what they're doing, has anyone tasted a fruits or veggie grown by US farmers, the stuff is awful tasting.

My last oil change at my Chevy dealership was 59$ with my Avalanche. That included greasing, air in tires, fluid top offs. Bulk synthetic oil. I watch them do the whole job. Basically the same at my Honda dealer on our recent CRV. When I ask at the Honda dealership they only use synthetic. They too have a large window with a bench so you can watch. Being there’s about ten quick lubes in our town they have to be reasonable in pricing. And are.

This is exactly what I studied in my masters class. It’s because it seems like EVERYTHING in the US economy today for foods is PROCESSED FOODS, which are full of sugars!!!  They are not good for you, also with people having busier lives than they did 20 to 30 years ago. So many more people eat fast food. Another thing with these processed foods is that they are simple to make. Pop into the microwave or oven and it’s done.  Most people don’t make there own meals anymore because of TIME. And it’s quite sad. You should see the processed food lunches at my kids school. It atrocious!

Sugar is not the problem, manufactuered sugars are the problem , sugar is the basic fuel for humans anatomy.  the problem is in the form its fed to the human is whats causing the damage . We really thrive on fruits, berries, and melons. this is ideal diet for us.  pizza, and corn based feed is not our diet.

we should be living closer to the equator , and running nekid with the apes. but. not everyone can.do this..

Sugar are the problem no matter how you look at it. Yes sugar in the right AMOUNT is good for you and your body, but people don’t follow those rules and neither do processed food companies or fast food restaurants. Sugar is highly addictive and the more they shove into foods the more people will eat it and continue eating it. I have pages upon pages of this on my laptop. It’s amazing how much of our food now a days is processed instead of “homegrown”/ “naturally grown”  

It’s the same concept with steroids. IF you can take steroids in very small doses it is actually good for you, BUT so many people WANT the instant bulk and strength and don’t want to wait for it the RIGHT way and they abuse it. Then when they have been using it for years and stop, their body breaks down.  

And yes if you or anyone lived in hotter areas the fruits are plentiful and good for you. I myself love vegetables. Cauliflower, radishes are my favorite.
